Hello everyone, I am originally from Reading, PA. and now live near Charlotte, NC. Over the weekend, I went with my son to an indoor Flea market and the first thing I picked up when I walked in the building, was a tiny red book from 1862, and when I opened the first page, I saw the name of Maggie Hannahoe - 929 Cotton St. Reading. Some of the pages were adorned with a young person's pencil doodles and the name of Mary HANNAHOE, I figure it was probably Maggie's daughter practicing her handwriting. I am not related to the Hannahoe's, but I couldn't resist such a treasure for 6 bucks. My ancestors lived in that area for many generations and I remembered a story of an Irishman, Tom Hannahoe, a colorful figure in our East Reading History. If I remember correctly, Tom made a pact with an Irish friend that whoever died after the other, the survivor would play an Irish tune over the other's grave every year on St. Patty's Day until his death and Tom kept his promise! I'm sure there are subscribers who are more familiar with the total story than I am. If there is anyone researching Hannahoe and would like the little book, I will give it up, because I have been hoping to find some things like this of my ancestors. As a child visiting my grandmother, I remember many old pictures hanging on the walls, old bibles and many things apparently from her parents. When she died and a daughter who lived with her died, her daughter's husband sold or gave away all those things and didn't consult anyone else in the family . Now, everytime I sit in a Crackerbarrel restaurant, drinking my coffee, I wonder if any of those antique pictures on the walls are my ancestors. So if anyone sees any bibles or papers with any of my surnames, please contact me, I'm not rich, but I will find a way to buy them.
