    1. [PENNA-DUTCH-L] Re: PHILADELPHIA BONAPARTE's
    2. pollard
    3. Hi L.A.McGinnis, Thank you for responding to my post. For three years I have been seeking information on the Sebastian (Bastier) Pollard (hereinafter referred to as Sebastian). This is the name of my G-G-Grandfather who came to the U.S. from the Pyrenees Mountains of Southern France. I am told that he lived in the Pyrenees Mountains of Southern France in the 19th century. Apparently he was born between 1790 and 1815. According to family history his is somehow related to the Bonaparte (Buonaparte) family of Corsica. Sebastian Pollard is said to have come to the United States by way of New Orleans, Louisiana sometime in 1857 (but he may have been in the U.S. much earlier). He was known to speak French, German, and English -- my G-Grandfather grew up speaking German, too. However, I do not know when he was born or whether or not he was native to the Pyrenees Mountains of Southern France. My G-G-Grandfather Pollard is said to have married a Ms. Sallie Kinder (Kunder?) in Louisiana, Pennsylvania or Early Oregon Territory; sometime in the mid-late 19th century: http://www.isu.edu/~trinmich/Oregontrail.html http://www.pbs.org/weta/thewest/wpages/wpgs300/3whitman.htm. Sallie's Kinder father was said to be Asa Kinder and her mother was said to be a Mrs. Frances Blux, Blue, or Bilyeu (?). Both Asa and Frances were said to be from Holland or Germany. I am told that Frances was said to have family in Illinois, Canada, New York, and Pennsylvania. I should also not that Asa, Frances and Sallie spoke German (possibly French?) and English, too. Sebastian Pollard was killed when my G-Grandfather, William Richard Pollard was six months old -- sometime between 1871-1872. Within several years of my G-G-Grandfather Pollard’s death, by G-G-Grandmother remarried. In 1884-1885, my G-G-Grandmother Pollard died or was killed under questionable circumstances. Shortly thereafter, her second husband was killed in a fire which destroyed their home. Presently, I am seeking information which connects my Pollard’s with Early Oregon Territory Pollard’s. For example, I am told that my Pollard’s lived in Pollard, Washington: http://extra.entisoft.com/P/o/Pollard.HTM and Walla Walla, Washington: http://www.peak.org/~mransom/pioneers.html during the 19th century. But, so far I have been unable to confirm a genealogical connection with Early Oregon Territory Pollard’s and my Early Oregon Territory Pollard’s. In the meantime, with the aid of my family history, I have found a record of B.F. Pollard (Bastier Pollard?) traveling on the Steamship Texas in New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 16th, 1857. The Steamship Texas was traveling from either New York or California and was on its' way to the San Juans (Havana Cuba) in the West Indies. The ships log indicates that B.F. Pollard may either have been a citizen of the United States or of Germany but the log is not easy for me to read. So, depending on how you read it, the log may read that he was: a U.S. citizen, a German citizen, and that he may possibly have been a lawyer (?). I have had two professional genealogists look up this ship log on microfilm. One says that he was a German lawyer and the other says he was a United States citizen. Anyway, although B.F. Pollard corresponds with my family history, I do not know if he is connected to my Pollard’s; I am simply exploring my a possible lead. Moving right along, Sebastian Pollard is said to have fought in “Napoleons Army” or as they say in French, “L’Armee de Napoleon." By the way, Sebastian is said to have come to the United States with several Generals and a Lieutenant of Napoleons Army: Bernard/Benard, George, Charles, or William. I am also told that my G-G-Grandfather hired three, as yet unidentified, men to purchase land in Early Oregon Territory, the Willamette Valley; totaling one square mile (1609,33m.). My G-G-Grandfather Sebastian Pollard was said to have a cousin in the Texas Army, Calvary or Rangers. And, he was said to have a cousin, Athiela (I do not know the correct spelling but that's what the name sounds like), who died in Florida. The bottom line is that I am seeking any information on: (1) the Pollard surname, (2) Champs d’Asile (Field of Asylum) c. 1818-1819 (Texas), (3) Champs d’Aiglon (Field of Eagles) c. 1818-1819 (Alabama). I welcome any objective information to confirm, deny, or connect my Early Oregon Territory Pioneers. Thank you for your help and your time. Best, Dick Pollard [email protected] http://home1.gte.net/pollard/index.htm P.S., After three years of research, last summer and winter I found some Web sites on the Bonaparte’s in America (W3 search engines are getting better all the time): The Bonaparte’s in Philadelphia: http://www.libertynet.org/athena/bon1.html The Bonaparte’s in America: http://www.heraldica.org/topics/usa/bonapart.htm The Bonaparte’s in Texas: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/cgi-bin/web_fetch_doc?dataset=tsha.dst&db=handbook&doc_id=20968&query=Jerome+Bonaparte The Beauharnais in the West Indies: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/cgi-bin/web_fetch_doc?dataset=tsha.dst&db=handbook&doc_id=14480&query=Beauharnais "L.A.McGinnis" wrote: > Think I may be able to help - with recalling my school years taking > French - > as well as connecting to a possible 'cuz' Pollard > line - > > >Any French speakers out there? > > > >RE: [PENNA-DUTCH-L] PHILADELPHIA BONAPARTE's > > did not think Pollard line was French - but may very be. > [ne pense pas Pollard est francais - mais possible] > > > > >>>Je cherche por le patronyme Pollard et le nom Sebastien ou Bastier > >(surnom).
