1.The PDL surnames page will be edited and updated 9-2-1997. Would everyone who participates in the list please look at it between 9-2 and 9-7. The way it appears on 9-8 is how it will be printed and sent to LMHS, LCHS, BCHS, Northampton Co. HS, etc. If I made an error in your email address or your surnames please notify me by 9-7. 2.All new listmembers are requested to visit the PDL webpageand linked FAQ etc. pages. The PDL homepage serves in lieu of a welcome letter and details list conditions, etc. If you are too busy to read the posts made by the listowner and too busy to visit the website perhaps the list is not for you. Not being aware of list rules etc. does not mean that they do not apply. 3. LIST REMOVAL- In 15 months I have removed 5 people for different reasons and all for reasons which were/are well explained beforehand. If an address is removed by me, (very unlikely) the listmember would first receive a communication from me to that effect and will not be allowed to resubscribe. NOTE: you may be removed by the server, not me, and this happens somewhat frequently. solution:resubscribe. The rootsweb server is not like our previous server. If your mailbox is full or your server is down, rootsweb will not just keep sending me bounced mail messages like Maiser the previous server did. After 5 unsuccessful attempts to deliver mail to an address, for WHATEVER reason, rootsweb will remove the address from this list. You will receive a server generated message saying you have been removed. please resubscribe. 4.List ownership-the terms of a list are the prerogative of the listowner. Some persons seem to think the list works by magic and no individual is in control. That is incorrect, a listowner can stipulate that posts may be made only on Wednesdays and remove those who do not comply. If the terms of membership are not to your liking simply do not join or unsubscribe. Sending me screaming, flaming email as I received this morning(the mail included no explanation of what they were talking about) is not the way to go. I receive a ton of email and will have to be believed when I say I know in general what the majority consensus is on posts, terms and other list issues and the list "rules" reflect that consenus. There are several members who know that when a good suggestion is made to me it is implemented, the PDL web page represents one of those suggestions. Please make suggestions to me, not to the list. 5.For those that are unaware, there is a list one can join at rootsweb, the specific purpose of which is to announce new lists. I do not have the address at hand but when I get it, it will be posted to the PDL webpage. 6. Your web page, new or old. Feel free to include the address or a"see my web page at..." as a part of a post, but posts should not be made, the sole purpose of which, is to announce the webpage. Anyone who so chooses may have their webpage linked on the PDL listmember webpages page. Posts made which solely "announce" DAR, Civil War, USGenweb, or other "entity" sites are fine. Posts made SOLELY to announce an individual's webpage are not. There has been a surge in new members in the past 30 days or so and hopefully all will assimilate and the PD list will continue as it has, which despite occasional grumblings continues to grow at a healthy rate. rod
