Was your source for this the same as the other HUFF information? Another possible: Is there anything on Michael HOFF of Alsace who is shown on the 1800 Census? Franz KERST owned property in Alsace when he died, according to his will of 1765, when he mentioned his sister Mary HUFF of Maidencreek. Maybe there is a connection there. Are there any parents for Michael? He is not shown on the 1810 Census, so may have died before then. Does anyone have wills of Berks County who could look for Michael HOFF?
