    3. Hi! I use a Mac and even FTM files from others cannot be directly imported by my FTM. What I need is a GEDCOM file. All I do is open (or convert on my Mac) into my WP (Clarisworks). Then I "save as" a plain text file. This is what I now can "import" as a gedcom into FTM. In FTM as you are importing there are buttons on your window which you can scroll to choose the type of file you are importing. (I'm hoping this is the same in a PC FTM version! <G>) Choose "gedcom" and you should be in business!! It's the same on exporting FTM files - scroll the button & choose "gedcom". Some questions will be asked on both as far as what fields you'd like to import/export and then it will convert it for you. BTW - I have recently purchased Reunion for the Mac as my main gene program. It's *fabulous* and is a "native" Mac program. I was really disgusted with Broderbund for sucking me in to purchase the Mac version of FTM and them having almost zero support for it. It has never been upgraded in almost a year and a half!! Can't import images or even fully utilize an FTM web page at their site, since the Mac version does not support those features. One note of mention when importing gedcoms from anyone: no program is *exactly* the same. The additional fields which may be included just may not fit in to the same fields in your program or they may be too long and are cropped. Always go back & double-check to make sure your have the right information in the correct fields. Hope this helps a bit! -Linnea At 16:51 6/30/99, L.A.McGinnis wrote: > Sure would like to know this as well - > > I think it must depend on the software and / or the >computer and / or the setup of these - because I can't do it either even >though everything says this is possible - but I'm NOT a computer whiz - > > > > >> >> I really feel stupid here, but how do you export an FTM file to a gedcom >> file? >> > > join the club - I have some GEDcom files which have been >sent to me, but I can't figure out how to access them even though my FTW >program supposedly does this; I think something is defective, but no one >will admit this - they just agree it's a befuddling problem - > :) :) :) > >anne-ology >[email protected] >http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Fields/8739/index.html
