>From the Durham Herald-Sun, today (7 Feb 1999) Moravian Town Named Landmark Winston-Salem -- Historic Bethabara, a Moravian settlement, has been designated a National Historic Landmark, the only one named this year in North Carolina... Old Salem Historic District, Salem Tavern and the Single Brothers' House are the other national landmarks in Winston-Salem. Moravians settled the site in 1753 as a temporary town. Bethabara continued on as a settlement even after the establishment of Salem and became a park in 1970, even as the city of Winston-Salem surrounded it.
