My great grandfather, Peter Jacob GERHARDT and his wife, Mary Katherine HILDEBRANDT brought their familiy to the United States from Germany in 1869 and settled in Cambria County. In writings of my grandfather I found the information that Peter Jacob was the son of Johan Frederick GERHARDT, and that Mary Katherine Hildebrandt was the daughter of Conrad HILDEBRANDT and that they were from Langenselbold in Hesse Darmstadt. They were lifelong Lutherans, so I wrote to the church there, and they stated that they had no records of any Gerhardts or Hildebrandts, so I am stumped as to how to proceed from here. My father started this search in 1956 and met with the same result. Any suggestions? Dorothy Jones
