It's been bothering me why an excommunicated Mennonite would wear a sign of that religious persuasion. I believe the cap denotes honor to God at all times because God is always present, not just on Sunday to meet him there. If this had been drilled into me since childhood, I couldn't reject that form of showing faith, even if I became a Lutheran. After all, I believe Lutherans also believe in God and that He is always present. Mennonites went through enough Hell in finding a place to practice religious freedom that even a "fallen away" former member couldn't reject the idea of that freedom and thus not wear that outward symbol. It hasn't been until recently that almost all churches have mandated that women cover their heads to honor Him while in his house. I would bet that the men in Vee's photograph were wearing beards, but that's another whole story. Joyce Stevens Livonia, MI ==== PENNA-DUTCH Mailing List ==== Post your PD Holiday recipes!
