I've had a question about my reference to a book by Dr. Fisher. The book is: "Central Pennsylvania Marriages 1700-1896" compiled by Charles A. Fisher published in Selinsgrove, PA 1946. The other question as to a "Sarah Fisher" married to "Lewis Pennell" in Chester County"s Great Valley 1809: Dr. Fisher"s book does not mention this. I seem to remember that Dr. Fisher's family was German or Pa-Dutch and settled very early in the Susquehanna River area of PA below Sunbury. Sebastian Fischer, one of the original "Schoharie" settlers came down the same river and lived in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks Co., PA. He was German. The area of this "Sarah Fisher" marriage was primarily settled by the Welsh. Also, the spelling of her name with an H is more often, I believe, typical of the British. Perhaps her birth in 1790 could be found in the records of: SWARTHMORE COLLEGE Friends Historical Library Swarthmore, PA 19081 Also, I think Haverford College in Haverford, PA has many Quaker records. There were many Germans in upper Chester County above Devon at that time and in Montgomery Co. as well, so perhaps Sarah was German. And, perhaps the Great Valley Baptist Church had a different name in years past? I could be thinking of the wrong church, but the one that comes to mind is a white frame church at the bottom of the hill leading from King of Prussia to Devon, which I know as "the old Welsh Congregational church." Happy hunting. ==== PENNA-DUTCH Mailing List ==== Visit other PDL listmember webpages. Links are Located at http://members.aol.com/PennaDutch/pdlurl.html
