    3. Folks, this shouldn't be so controversial. The gravestone is very typical of old Pa Dutch gravestones of this era. "eine geborne Klein" means Klein is the woman's maiden name .. 100% guaranteed. I've seen this phrase over and over again used in this way. [Really, wouldn't it be kind of inane to put on someone's tombstone "she was born small" :) ] "Ehegattin" is a fancy way of saying wife. I don't think there is an exact English translation. "Ehe" means matrimony and "gattin" can mean wife, so "Ehegattin" literally means "married wife." Maybe to distinguish from common-law wife (?) BTW, if you're not already aware of it, check out the site: http://dictionaries.travlang.com/GermanEnglish/ It might not handle some of those old German words, though, especially if the spelling is nonstandard.
