Hi, I found a record indicating one of my ancestors was admitted "by order of P. Zantzinger and I. Hoff" to the Lancaster House of Employment and Hospital. He was described as a lame, 56 year old male, resident of Philadelphia. He appears on the pauper list, but only for a few months. Then he is listed as removed, not as discharged or deceased. I could not find any information about him in the minutes for the House/Hospital. So I am not sure what "removed" means--whether it means he left voluntarily, he served his time and thus was eligible to leave, or whether he went from the House of Employment to the hopsital or vice versa. Does anyone know if any records exist for Zantzinger/Hoff that would tell me why he was institutionalized "by order"? Would this type of event have been announced in local newspapers? If so, any suggestions where to look? Thanks. Nancy Freehafer
