    2. Schneider is the German spelling which means Taylor. Snyder is the English version of Snyder. If your Snyder immigrants were Germanic it was Schneider before they came over. Remember the Ships were English and quite a few names were on the ship lists were anglicized by the Englishmen. Dictionary of German Names by Hans Bahlow. Schneider: (tailor), Schneider(s) (Rhine area.) Here in Berks Co., PA. both spellings are used for the Germanic Ancestory, I find it in my family.
