Just found out that my Great-grandfather, William Hynd of Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland was called "Yankee Bill" by his friends in Scotland because he made several trips back and forth from Scotland to the U.S. before he finally immigrated permanently to Pennsylvania. I was also told that he originally came to Pennsylvania because the "Summerville Mining Co." had advertised for coal miners in Scotland and he had responded to the ad. Anyone ever hear of this company? Family legend has it that he helped to rescue several people during the Johnstown Flood. Can anyone tell me any info on the Flood? What year did that happen?
