Hello lists, I am attempting to co-author a book on this SURBER family. The Surber family originated in Canton Zurich. Heinrich Surber, age 50, wife Hannah/Kleinanna, son Heinrich, age 15, and daughter Verena, age 5, came to Philadelphia in 1735 aboard the ship Mercury. There is no further mention of Hannah/Kleinaa after the arrival. Verena may or may not have stayed in Pennsylvania, while father Henry and son Henry made their way to Old Frederick County (Shenandoah area), Virginia by 1752-54. From there, the family spread southwestward up the Valley, then over westward. My particular line went to Kentucky in the early 1810s, and then on to West Texas in 1870. The earliest generations tended to marry within the same Swiss German group coming from Pennsylvania to Virginia. We are trying to completely cover five generations down from the son Henry SURBER (baptised 8 Jan 1718 in Steinmaur, Dielsdorf District, Canton Zurich; died ca 1795 in Botetourt County, Virginia; wife unknown). The sixth generation includes living persons, so we will stop at five generations. We have lots of information to share about this family and the families which married into it. The easiest thing would be for anyone to ask me questions about them. I will attempt as complete an answer as possible. From your questions and any follow-up conversations, I can hopefully tell where you are in your research and what information you may have that I may need. I can post some of the associated family names if anyone wishes. If I have corresponded with anyone in the past about this line, hopefully I have discovered more information since then, so please don't hesitate to re-ask any questions. And, if I don't answer right away, keep after me!
