Okay, had many responses for this recipe!! Waldorf Astoria Red Cake 1/2-c shortening 1/2-tsp salt 1-1/2-c sugar 1-c buttermilk 2 eggs 2-1/4-c flour 2-oz red food coloring 1-tsp soda (that's baking soda!) 1 tsp vanilla 1-tsp vinegar 2-TBSP cocoa Cream shortening, sugar & eggs. Add the rest & mix. Fold in vinegar last. Bake 350-degrees in 2-8" pans. Icing Mix 1-c milk, 5-TBSP flour. Cook on medium heat until thick. Beat until smooth. Cool. Add 1-c sugar, 1-c shortening, 1-tsp vanilla, dash of salt. Beat until it forms stiff peaks.
