Steve, saw your post and was surprised to see one of my distant relatives marrying one of your Oberlin's. Mary Margaret "Eve" Ensminger b Feb 21 1774 d c1812. Margaret as she appears in my records by Raymond Martin Bell who has traced the Ensminger family back into the 1500's. Wish someone had traced the rest of my relatives so thoroughly. Good luck on your quest. I am still trying to get more background data on my gr grandfather, John Huffman. He was born in 1807, probably in York County. He left Hummelstown, Pa in April 1850 with his family and came to Wood County Ohio. Also making the trip were his wife Nancy's parents, Jacob and Catherine Wire (or Weir). Anyone out there related to me or researching the same ancestors? Would like to hear from you. Thanks. Glen E. Huffman e-mail: gandchuffman@aol.com

Hazel - Hey, we're all related somehow. "Eve" Ensminger was quite a lady, and a pioneer, one of the first to re-locate from Penn to Ohio. According to family histories I've read, the couple really was known as Adam and Eve. In Ohio, the Freys, Hartmans, Oberlins, and Ensmingers all knew each other and intermarried like rabbits. Also the Mowrys. A memorial stone in honor of Pioneer Henry Frey (d. 1734), erected in Bertolets' burying ground in 1910, states that the Frey family "established this cemetery [in] 1725. " The oldest legible marker is of the year 1766. The lot remained a private burying ground for more than a century.

Perhaps we can help each other. In my Kantner (Gander) line I have the following: Susanna Frey married Jacob Kantner about 1769. He was born Berks County, Tulpehocken Township about 1740, a brother in my line. Abraham Frey married Appolonia Kantner also about 1769. She was born Berks County, Tulpehocken Township 1749, a sister in my line. Could these be siblings of mentioned Frey ancestors? N. Searching for the parents of Peter Eberly b. 1789, Lancaster PA m. Maria Snyder (1794-1870) d. 28 Feb 1870 Liberty Twp. Montgomery Co OH Lee Kreider Researching: Kreider, Phipps, Little, Eberly, Spitler, Brodine, Hazen http://home.earthlink.net/~lkreider/set04.html
I just joined the list. In 1919, Rev. J.G. Francis, genealogist laureate of Lebanon Co PA published a history of the Kreider family in the Lebanon Daily News. It was 31 instalments. I have the entire work entered into my The Master Genealogist and will try to respond to any queries. I have the work transcribed and available on CD. I'm guessing from the surnames that they were from PA Dutch ancestry. Their daughter Rebecca was born about 1822 and lived in Guernsey County, Ohio with her husband John Wendell. I'd love to hear from anyone who recognizes this family.
