I'll try this name because we're trying to find more relatives to come the first Sun. in Aug. and keep our family reunion going. Small story here. I started research in the mid 1970's. My parents had not done research but both had collected information from older relatives that has been suprisingly mostly accurate. Catherine Wade, b. 1803 is my ancestor. The story on the Wade's was that there were 6 daughters and the Shaub family who had a clothing/shoe store in Lancaster were cousins. My husband's aunt had a bad fall and was in a rehab north of Lancaster, so once a month we went to Lancaster, went through cemeteries and libraries and then visited his aunt. We had a lot of fun. At the LMHS, I almost forgot to check the correspondence file and my husband reminded me just before we were ready to leave. In the file was a letter from someone who had heard the same story, 6 daughters and the Shaub store cousins. Wow! It develops that John Wade only mentioned his 2 sons in his will and we added 2 of the daughters only from the family stories with no records. If anyone has a Wade female (our names could be wrong) and is looking for a connection, you may fit in. Marge Green 1. JOHN1 WADE was born 1768, and died June 09, 1816 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. He married MARIA HEISCH September 22, 1789 in Trinity Luth, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She was born August 06, 1769, and died May 24, 1869 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. While I'm at it I'll try a couple of others. Does anyone connect with Frölich, my maiden name. I have it traced back to Strasburg, Lancaster Co. abt. 1753. Although I still haven't found a list of the immigrant's children in 30 years research, I'm sure I connect to Jacob Froelich, who went to the Flying Camp in the Jerseys in Aug. 1776 and died Strasburg Twp. 1784. John M. Froelich, Biographical Annals of Lancaster Co., Mountville builder and banker was a cousin. Actually, although there are a few Froelich's in Lancaster Co. who are not related, most are, but I don't know how. Some have also disappeared, I know not where. This is not a common name in the US. Marge Green

There were several names that I'm interested in that were mentioned in posts. The first I'll try is Shenk. there is probably a connection somewhere. This is mostly secondary information and may be wrong. Any additions, corrections will be very welcome. I think I got some of it from the Coffman, Kaufman Genealogy that the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Library was/is? selling. I started looking at the Conestoga Twp. tax lists at the LDS Library this evening. There were Shenks and Myers when the lists started in 1751 - not sure if they're mine though. 1. He was born June 09, 1791 in Conestoga Twp., Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, and died June 08, 1836 in Lancaster Twp., Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. (I need the rest of their children. You would think I'd be able to find a name like Socrates as a parent!) Child of MARY SHENK and SOCRATES MYERS is: i. MARTHA5 MYERS, b. June 16, 1818; d. November 15, 1884; m. JOHN PARMER; b. If Henry came from the Pennsylvania Dutch area, it is certain that his original name was Heinrich, as Henry is an english name. But upon landing in America when he told the purser or immigration official his name, that person wrote down "Henry" being the the nearest to Heinrich. Hi everyone - I just joined the list and I need some help. Looking for info on a John Werts or Wirts who was born in PA around the 1820's. According to the 1850 Indiana census John's wife Mary was from Ohio and they settled in Indiana in the 1840's. John had 2 sons & 4 daughters. The boys names were Samuel & Solomon. This has been a major roadblock for myself and another cousin doing research. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks Wendy Wirts-Thomas
If any of you are interested in more information about Heinrich Frey who came to Philadelphia, PA in 1685 on the Francis and Dorthea as an indentured servant of Gerhard Hendrichs, and married Anna Catherine Levering in 1692. There are records and documents to prove these two dates. I belong to the Heinrich Frey Family Association (HFFA), and there are a lot of members who are much more knowledgeable than I am. I descend from his son Benjamin >Abraham >Elizabeth who married Henry Ewalt (also PA Dutch). If any one is interested in information about HFFA please contact me. Lynn Vitasek lynnv2@ont.com
Have been told Martin HENRY came from York, (county?) PA. Would have been in 1800's. Could he have been Pennsylvania-Dutch? Is Henry a dutch name? Or his wife's maiden name Wilhelm? Martin moved on to Ohio. Looking for information of his parents name.

TO: Shirley Murray FROM: William E. Fox, Jr. "Bill" -- Silver Spring MD DATE: May 16, 2001 Dear Shirley, Unfortunately, all of our genealogy records are boxed for storage as we are moving to Australia for a few years. My FUCHS ancestors (name later changed to FOX) settled in central Pennsylvania (around Harrisburg and Linglestown) in the late 1700's. There are John's in my line and one Abraham as I remember. Do you think that your people could have come from this area originally before migrating to Kentucky. Interestingly, one of our daughters and her family recently moved to Louisville. Another connection to Louisville is that I attended the U. of Louisville in the middle 1950's. I will await your reply before trying to dig out any more info. Isn't this an exciting family activity. It really helps you to connect with our ancestors. Best regards, Bill Fox Cricket1300@aol.com wrote: > > Abraham Fox rec'd 200 acres in Kentucky for his service with the Cumberland > Rangers of PA. Abraham Fox rec'd 200 acres in Kentucky for his service with the Cumberland Rangers of PA. By his military papers he was once a resident of Greenwood Township. I researched Comberland Co tax lists for 1771-1775 (file #0021088) Cumberland tax lists for 1776, 1779-1780 (film #0021089) Cumberland Land and Prop. in Grantor-Grantee Indexes 1750-1950 (Files #0021039 and 0021039) Probate records of 1750-1937 (Film #0021075). No Abraham Fox, however, considerable confusion has been noted in the name which has been at times written or interpreted as Fuchs (the German spelling), Foos, Fose, Foas, Foss, and Ford. Part of the confusion was the illiteracy of the person giving their name and the inability of the recorder to correctly spell or legibly write what they believed they heard. Even when written correctly the handwriting of the ear has led to present day transcription errors. The Pennsylvania, Cumberland County tax lists include such names as Fouts, Foos, Fore, Folk, Fopes, Fose, Foas, Floas, Fin, Frey and Fry, any of which could have been Fox, although some of the foregoing are more likely than others. I might mention that the name Fox has even been read as Ford due to the handwriting style. Abraham Fox appeared in the KY Tax roll in 1799. Always near him was John Fox who by his death record was born in Philadelphia. John Fox was appointed caretaker of Abraham before his death. THe men are believed to be closely related, either father and son or brothers. Descendents in Kentucky claim two brothers by the name Fox came to the area of present day Russell County. The brothers spoke only German. One brother stayed, the other moved west. I found nothing to support the claim or German ancestry. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Shirley Murray
