Hi... Been seeing a lot on several lists about the current virus(es) that are making the rounds; I am wondering how they act when you get it.... I SAFELY shut down my computer last week preparatory to moving my office furniture around with all the computer equipment, etc., and reorganizing; when I got ready to re-boot the computer, it wouldn't; all I got was a black screen with a white outline at the bottom of all the function (F) keys, above that was a white outline of a 3.5 inch diskette, and above that was a white outline of a 3.5 inche diskette drive door..... couldn't get rid of them; also, before those outlines showed up, there was a multiple-digit number that just kept repeating itself down the left margin of the black screen..... I have had this before, years ago, and had to completely reformat my hard drive at that time. I had to do that again this time, and I lost a lot of genealogy information files I had accumulated; THAT part is my fault, I keep putting off getting a Zip Drive and Zip Disks to save everything on my computer... the 3.5 inch disks just don't do it anymore. So I could have at least prevented my loss. I also now have the software for Norton's Antivirus which I will be putting on probably later today. Just was wondering whether or not what happened to my computer was, indeed, the/a virus, or just something that happened due to the shutdown, which should have been okay since I did it in the right procedure. Thanks for any thoughts or information. Also, what about external zip drives? Any thoughts out there? Thanks a lot. Uh-Oh! Sounds like you picked up the virus I worked on for two weeks! Look carefully at your anti-virus set-up. Hello: Trying to find records of a Henry Lehman, b1836 in Lebanon Co Pa. His fathers name listed on his Civil War Records say it was Jacob Lehman and that his mother was from Ireland, but no name listed. Family tradition was that they were Penn. Dutch. Henry was in Civil War and they had moved to Greene Co Indiana. There was another group of Lehmans that were from PA and they also arrived about the same time in Indiana. There is still a Lehmans Grocery Store run by ancestors of the original Lehmans, in Owensburg, Indiana. If any one has any connection to this family, would love to hear from you. I have pictures of Henry and his wife, Maggie McCullough, and his pension records. Thanks, M.Gentry
Thanks Bettie, Turns out to be a problem created when I downloaded MSN using Juno which gave me little more than a lot of problems. I was able to download new MSN software using MSN and that and a couple of other problems went away. Juno did not want to give up and kept me on for free. However, I had to scrub them off my disk due to continued junk mail and other problems. I have a good virus shield so I have remained clean - even using Juno. I teach Office 2000 to local seniors so this kind of thing should not happen to me - but it did and I did not want the list members to think I was a nut. Thank you very much for your response. I just checked and my virus software is over a year old so will upgrade it today thanks to you. I have a lot of research to do for the Harlemans and other PA Dutch so am looking forward to help from this list. Have a good day and a better one tomorrow. Hello list, I am brand new. I am looking for the maiden name and family details for Elizabeth unknown, wife of Conrad Harleman who lived in Vincent, Pikeland and Coventry Townships from about 1762 through about 1808. Conrad's last name was misspelled as Hardeman in the 1790 census. Elizabeth was born in Aug 1746 in PA and died in 1818 in Northampton County, PA. Her tombstone in Palmerton says only "the wife of Conrad Harleman". One clue may be that a lady named Muertz was a witness at the baptism of their first child in Zion's Lutheran Church in Vincent Twp. I would appreciate any help possible to eliminate this brick wall. Tom, I noticed that you were also researching Ross. By any chance are you related to Sul Ross who was a Lieutenant in the Texas Rangers and served in Hood's Brigade during the Civil War. I am new on your website. I am seeking the parents of John Carlisle Long a ggggrandfather. Family tradition says that he was born in Lancaster County, PA on 7 Feb 1791 He moved to Tennessee and married Catherine Beeler on 14 Oct 1821. in Grainger County. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Yvonne Jones
One of the funniest I ran into was on a census, Godlip Frocup. He wasn't my family that I know of, but I did figure that he was Gottlieb Froelich:-) Marge Green
Peter Thomas Hohl is my GGrandpa. I do have some info on him and the Dieffenbachs. Would loved to share with a little more time. What's your connection?? Darryl
Betty, I am also from the Johann Andrew Yeager line. Recently I got from a most gracious person the records from the New Hanover Lutheran Church which lists the children of Johann Andreas/Andrew Yeager/Jorger. A marriage in 1745 to Catherine Conrad. Death records of some of the children and Hans Martin. (Many different spellings are used in these records for what I believe is the Yeager name) One record bothers me and that is a death record for Andreas Yorger (umlatts over the "o") died August 28 1774 at 49 years, 6 m. 4 w. and 1 d. This would make the age at death the correct age for the Johann Andreas who married in 1745 being about 20 years old when he married. The Johann Andreas Yeager I have info on died in 1787 in Virginia after marrying a second wife Margaret Sommers/Summers and having 4 more children. These church records also show Catherine Jorger (again umlatts over the "o") wife of Andreas died December 3 1769 38 y. 1m. 4 w 1 d. I believe this is the time frame I had for her death. (from memory) Much of the other info seems to be the same as what I had. Your thoughts and any info appreciated.
