I am looking for information on the Subject family in Montgomery and area counties. The New Hanover Lutheran Church records show the marriage of Henry Rumfield to Christina Bartman in 1807, and the marriage of Philip Rumfield to Rosina Minner in 1806. Maria Rumfield was born to Henry and Christina in 1809. Does anyone have any additional information on these families? Specifically I am looking for the birth of my gg-grandfather Peleg Rumfield. He was born in PA in 1818 (March 25). I have not been able to establish who his parents are. I am also looking for a Petit family. Rachel Petit was born in 1819 and married Peleg Rumfield. They later went to Ohio. I would appreciate any information. Since no one else seems inclined to field this one, I may as well take a shot at it. In 1719 the northwestern area of Chester County was settled by Welsh who chose to name the township "Nantmeal" meaning "sweet stream" or "sweet water". In 1740 it was divided into East and West Nantmeal townships. On February 24, 1789, a group of landowners in the northwestern part of West Nantmeal Township appealed to the courts in West Chester for a division of the large township, the petition was granted and Honey Brook Township was founded. The area was intensely rural at the time and predominantly settled by Scots-Irish and Welsh. The town of Honey Brook itself was first known as Waynesburg, after the "General Wayne" tavern at the center of the village, during the years 1815-1876. With the advent of the railroad the name was changed to Honeybrook to avoid confusion with another Waynesburg in the southwestern part of the state. From about 1900 on, the name appears written as two words, Honey Brook, although you will see road signs that differ in this respect. My family has been rooted in this spot since the late 1700's and I have three histories of Honey Brook, two on the township and one on the borough, which go into more detail about families, individuals and institutions in the area. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have a specific question on which I might be able to help. Teresa Gordon DiPietro tdipietro@prodigy.net ==== PENNA-DUTCH Mailing List ==== New? 10-25-97 @ 1515 EDT Greetings All: Does anyone have access to the 1810 census record of Roscoman Twp., Berks County? I would appreciate the census details for HENRY EGOLD (EGOLF) allegedly listed on page 199. As I cannot find Roscoman Twp. in my Atlas, does it exist today? Or, was its name changed sometime after 1810. Are there any other Roscoman Twp. records available from the 1810 era, speciffically regarding HENRY EGOLD (EGOLF) ? Any inputs you can offer, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Carl C. ==== PENNA-DUTCH Mailing List ==== Haven't found a post of interest? Why not generate one of your own?

PD'ers The time required to reach a web site and display the page seems to be getting longer and longer and I don't know if it my computer or network congestion. I just (2:00 A.M.) logged to a site mentioned in today's mail, as a test. It took 2 minutes, after reaching the site, to display a file of 10,300 bytes. I am using a 486 with a 14.4 external modem. I can see the transmit light on the modem flicker after long pauses, as does the hard disk light. It seems the packets are not getting thru the net and my AOL server. Faster modems will help but the question is how much .... the delay seems to me to be in the net because the response was much better a couple of years ago. I would be interested in any comments or time-test information that you might wish to provide. If there is enogh interest, and no one objects to this kind of posting, I will summarize you replies and publish them. >>>>>> Please contact me direct: dick744@aol.com <<<<<<<<<<< TIA Dick Creps

This line of my family history is quite sparse but, maybe, just maybe one of you will have some insight on the Weisner family. The family has been difficult to trace, probably because, for two generations, a much older man married for a second time to a very young wife and I descend from the second marriage of each. Generation 1: My grandfather: Robert Ross Weisner of Latrobe, Westmoreland, PA--born in Fairfield Twp., Westmoreland in 1875, died in Latrobe in 1955. Married Alice Kuhns of Bell Twp., Westmoreland, in 1904. Six children. Generation 2: Robert Ross Weisner was the son of Robert R. Wisener (as spelled on tombstone) and Elizabeth Gindlesperger. Robert R., the father, was born 1812, died 1886, married in 1865 to Elizabeth who was 32 years young than he (her second husband--first was Abraham Eshelman who was killed in Civil War), buried in Ft. Palmer Cemetery in Fairfield Twp. Robert R. and Elizabeth were the parents of eight children. Except for my grandfather's line, the surname used by their descendants is now Wisner. This marriage was Robert's second marriage--the first was to a Margaret ____. Robert and Margaret appear in Ligonier Twp., Westmoreland Co. 1850 and 1860 Census with a son Thomas (ages 36-28-9 and 40-39-21 respectively). Generation 3: Robert R. was the son of Ananias Wisner, according to Wisners in America by G. F. Wisner, 1918, p.269-270: "Another family of Wisners came from Germany in 1750 and settled in New Jersey. There were two sons--Ananias and George. Ananias was born 1751 and served in the Revolutionary War for five years. He was wounded in one leg. "When the war was over he married and settled in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, where he reared three children--John, William, and Henry. "In 1796 his wife died and later he married again. Two sons and two daughters were born to this union. The sons were Thomas and Robert." I've found Ananias on the tax rolls for Rye Twp., Cumberland County, PA in 1782 as a freeman, in Teboyne Twp. for 1782, in Newton Twp. in 1785, and finally in Hopewell Twp. as a shoemaker in 1786. In Census records: 1810 in Fairfield Twp., Westmoreland; maybe in 1840 census, same twp. as Americus Wisener. I would appreciate any help in Generations 2 and 3 above--more details on Robert R.'s first marriage, Margaret's surname, etc. and on both marriages of Ananias. Also, information on Ananias's Rev. War service, his parentage, siblings, anything! I will be happy to share what I do have on generations 1 and 2. I wanted to thank everyone who took the time and trouble to look up this ship and the "Felker/Volker/Fulker" (etc) people for me. I am constantly impressed by how friendly and helpful genealogists are. This IS how we find our families, which, to me, is what it is all about. Since all my known North Carolina families were from Pennsylvania, if you suspect your families migrated to NC, let me know. I have done extensive research in that area, and know others who have also. We'd all be happy to check our notes for you! THANKS AGAIN!! Dan, I certainly don't hold myself up to be any sort of expert in the German language or in German tombstone reading--although I have seen more than my share of old German stones in Pennsylvania cemeteries. I will quote the original inscription as was shown in the original message: "Denkmal/fur (double dots above u)/Sara Ginder,/ eine geborne Klein/ und Ehjegattin des/ Johannes Ginder;/geboren den 19 Januar/ 1806, starb den 2 August/ 1834, in dem Alter von 28; Johren, 6 Monaten und/ 13 Tagen." The line in question translates "one" (who was) "born Klein" (which could also be little). I think it is clear in this instance--as on many other stones I have seen--that the maiden name, and not the descriptive term, is what is being referred to. Joan Myers Young
