My ancestor, Henrich ECKERT, came to America on the ship PLEASANT on October 11, 1732. I am wondering has anyone traced their ancestors from this same ship back to Germany??? David Eckert ==== PENNA-DUTCH Mailing List ==== Haven't found a post of interest? Why not generate one of your own?

Jan, I have CD 166, which is Church Records: Selected Areas of Pennsylvania. I'll take a look and see what I can find. I just found out that my ggrandmother, Elizabeth Jane Tomes, who married Alonzo A. Shultz, had parents named William Tomes and Mary Elizabeth Schultz! (Note the different spellings) Did she marry a relative? Is your Mary E. Schultz related to this Mary E. Schultz?? I'll see what I can dig up on my CD. See if anyone has CD 287, which is Pennsylvania German Church Records. (Both are FTM) I'll get back to you. Jane

My first "post", so I hope my etiquette is all right. I would like any information anyone may have on my GG Grandmother, Susan MUSSER, no dates on birth, death, or marriage, married John Tyler ERISMAN (1840-1905). They lived in Lancaster County, PA. Susan had a sister, Annie B. MUSSER (1843-1915), who married Samuel DIEHL. With all the Mussers in Lancaster County, I sure would like to get a connection!! Thanks, Brent Smeltzer
Perhaps one of you Myers researchers could help me. . . In a Bible I have that belonged to my g-g-g-g-grandmother SUSANNAH LIEDER KEHLER, is a note that the Bible was part of AMOS ZOOD MYER's Library, having been presented to him by Grandmother Kehler. Now, I'm trying to find out who Amos descended from. This is what I know of Amos: Born 16 May 1866 in Monaghan Twp, York County. His father was Rev. JOHN H. MYERS, a Minister of Brethren of Christ Church in Mechanicsburg. Amos was a Baptist Minister having been licensed to preach in 1896 in York. In 1948 he lived in Mansfield, Tioga County. I gleaned all of this from information sent to me by the American Baptist Historical Society. Susannah was married first to SAMUEL LIEDER, and secondly to GEORGE KEHLER/KAYLOR. I know of 2 children she had by her marriage to Samuel (Jacob and Maria) and I don't think she had any by George since she was at least 50 and widowed when she married him. I descend thru Maria. Any of this fit into your family lines? I appreciate any help I can get!! > Also what is this Lancaster >House of Employment and Hospital? >Thanks, >Linda > My father grew up in Lancaster and their farm / glue works / rendering plant was near "the poor house" I'll be interested in seeing what other responses you get, but I suspect that the poor house and house of employment are the same instituion. The family farm was along the Conestoga River on the south side of Lancaster at the end of Rockland St. Immediately across the river from the farm was River View Cemetery. My impression from my father was that the poor house was very close. This should help you to identify the location of the institution in the early part of this century. My impression is that it was a mixture of people who were poor, mentally disabled, or physically disabled. My father spoke of a man who was the "shepherd" who led the cattle to pasture every day. He'd march in front of them playing an instrument. Some days it was a flute, and other days it was a violin. There was a "pit" where the "patients" went out for air or exercise. My dad and the kids would go up and look over the wall into the pit and watch them some times. Mary Jane UNRUH married Samuel DUNKELBERGER 14 Feb. 1869 in Indiana. She was the daughter of Joseph UNRUH and Polly FARMER or FARNER, both born in PA before 1830. All the UNRUHS of that time period were living in Germantown. Can anyone tell me who Joseph's father was? Bonnie
Hi, I'm looking for suggestions about where to look for further info: My immigrant ancestor, Christian Freehafer, arrived in Philadelphia about December 2, 1772 on the Ship Hope, which sailed from Rotterdam via Cowe's England. I suspect he was from Germany, but some Freehafer researchers believe he may have come from Switzerland. Is anyone familiar with the etymology of names to help me determine whether he is of German or Swiss descent. From the time he arrived at Philadelphia up until about 1800-1810 his name was spelled as Friechefer (or Freichefer), Frickheffer, Frickhoever. I am also wondering if/what newspapers are available circa 1772 that might have announced his arrival or indenture and where I might obtain copies of these records. Christian was indentured Dec. 4, 1772 to Joseph Shippen (Phila) and Edward Shippen (Lancaster). Did he have to sign any type of contract/agreement with his masters or with the shipping company? Is so are these contracts available on microfilm somewhere? And, does anyone know if any records exist in Cowe's England that might give clues to his origin? I understand there are no extant records in Rotterdam for this time period. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Hi, I found a record indicating one of my ancestors was admitted "by order of P. Zantzinger and I. Hoff" to the Lancaster House of Employment and Hospital. He was described as a lame, 56 year old male, resident of Philadelphia. He appears on the pauper list, but only for a few months. Then he is listed as removed, not as discharged or deceased. I could not find any information about him in the minutes for the House/Hospital. So I am not sure what "removed" means--whether it means he left voluntarily, he served his time and thus was eligible to leave, or whether he went from the House of Employment to the hopsital or vice versa. Does anyone know if any records exist for Zantzinger/Hoff that would tell me why he was institutionalized "by order"? Would this type of event have been announced in local newspapers? If so, any suggestions where to look? Thanks. Nancy Freehafer
janet, the pdl webpage to which all are referred specifically says NOT to make announcement posts and that doing so will reult in removal from the list. rod

Have you tried ordering his Civil War records? That often reveals good info... But order only ONE (military) or the OTHER (pension), not both on the same application.. the NA will not honor it... I usually order the Military record first... then the pension record (if he lived that long)... Good Luck! EllieSS@aol.com ==== PENNA-DUTCH Mailing List ==== Haven't found a post of interest? I would appreciate it if someone could do a lookup on JOHN LIBY on FTM Census CD's 311 (1790 PA) 315 (1830 PA) and 314 (1820 Oh) I have hit a dead end and hope that this may help. Delswab@aol.com David Liby
People - I have seen advertised two different CD's of Pa German church records. Does anyone have these or have an opinion on whether they are worth buying? (about $30 each I think, one from FTM and one something else). I am about at the end of my rope on Greatgrandfather Penrose FRANK. I *finally* got his death certificate (he had confused things by dying in Ohio although he is buried in Erie, Pa). Guess what. All the stuff I need to know is filled out 'Unknown.' What I do know is this: He was born, according to his army discharge, in Elizabethtown, PA in 1844. He served in the Civil War in the 84th Pa Volunteers. On Nov 18, 1868, he married Mary E. SCHULTZ. I don't know where she was from but it was probably around there somewhere since this was before he started his *real* wanderings. They lived in Middletown for a while, where their first three sons were born. He is in the Eastern PA census index for 1870, I don't know exactly where. By about 1880 he had moved to Erie in the opposite corner of the state. His mother may have been born on Oct 27, 1806, and she may have been a KELLER. Or it may have been Mary SCHULTZ (or SHULTZ) mother who was a KELLER. I *cannot* find anything about who his parents were and I thought maybe if I had those church records for the whole area I could catch him getting baptized or married or something (probably not just being a member; I have a distinct impression that the FRANKS were never much into religion). Or does anyone have another suggestion? Anything at all? I know one can ask people to look things up, but one has to know what to ask them to look for, and where, and I don't. -- jan <janiceaf@ix.netcom.com> Researching names: FRANK, KELLER, LUPHER/LUPFER, PENROSE, SCHULTZ, TAYLOR
