Gloria, Diana, et al.: haven't we all. Don't feel bad, Gloria!! Dave Ross Denver, CO
Hi, I just subscribed to this list after I found out that my gg grandmother probably came from Mansfield, PA and was of Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry. Naomi's maiden name is in doubt. It may to Carner or Carrier. Naomi was married in 1837 to Julius Wilcox. Would marriage records have been kept at that time? I'm interested in finding out who her parents and siblings were as well as her correct maiden name. Her birtdate was September 17, 1818 and was married on March 1, 1837. Any help as to how to find this information will be appreciated. Thank you. [email protected]

I am seeking info on these families: I have a Philip KUNTZ millwright of Carroll/Franklin twp. area of York co. wed to Elizabeth SCHIMPF d/o Mathias SCHIMPF and Elizabeth of Lancaster co. I would like to know the parents and origin of Mathias Schimpf and Philip Kuntz. Also Elizabeth's maiden name. There is a Philip KUNTZ of Lancaster co who had land along the Conestoga creek Deed 352 that I wonder if is related to my York co. Philip. (York Philip was a millwright) One Lancaster co. Philip KUNTZ's wife is Audey d/o Isaac COFFMAN according to deed D62 in 1751. Philip KUNTZ had a son John KUNTZ 1800-1879 wed to Susan HARBOLD d/o Michael HARBOLD. John KUNTZ had a daughter Elizabeth b1826. All lived in York co. My next troublemaker is Jacob MYERS C1791-1/31/1862 buried at Strayers cemetary in York co. he wed (probably 2nd wife) Elizabeth KUNTZ and had Jacob K. Myers b1/18/1858. Elizabeth's 2nd husband was Goerge BELTZHOOVER. Jacob Myers in York co. is like John Smith. Can anyone help me with him??????? Please??????? Margo
I have a Terisa BAKER 7/26/1807 in PA -6/8/1858 wed to Elias KOBLE 9/15/1796 in France-10/24/1865. They were wed 12/23/1822. They lived in Lancaster co and are buried at the Clearfield Methodist cemetary in southern Lancaster co. I am seeking info on the origins of either family. I have not found Terisa listed in wills or deeds in lancaster co. Terisa seems to be an unusual name as I have seen no other Bakers in Lancaster co. with that name. This info was listed in Elias' Bible. Thye had many children one of whom was martin COBLE b1825 wed to Maria RESSEL. Also seeking info on Maria RESSEL's grandparents-Michael RESSEL wed to Mary STEDMAN/Stehman 11/26/1777-10/28/1866. There is a Michael RUSSEL/RESSEL owned land in Lampeter, Lancaster co. who died in 1737. Patent #25 6/1718. (where do you go to view a patent?) He could be Michael's father. John Christopher RUSSEL of Bart twp. Lancaster co. lists Michael RESSEL as receiveing cash from accounts so I believe that my Michael RESSEL was RUSSEL. There are a slew of Little Britian and Bart RUSSEL families. Help. Margo Her other grandparents are Christopher KLEIN and Ann ESHELMAN. They were wed 12/12/1799 at Trinity in Lancaster and had a baby 4 months later. They had both taken communion at Trinity for 2-3 years before wedding. I have some strong suspects for Chris's parents
i have a Messach/Mefshach ERB of Lampeter, lancaster co. PA. He owned land in New Providence and his will was proved in 1833. According to the will his children are: Esther wed Daniel ZITTLE Elizabeth wed to Jacob ROCKAFIELD Catherine called Kittie wed to Adam LEFEVRE John died before 1833 Joseph I am looking for more info on Messach. To all: The FamilyHart Database was updated today! The number of names jumped from just over 151,000 names to over 168,000 names. Most of the additions are from the Glattfelder, Hartman, Rhyne, Sturm, Shirk, Hollinger, Glotfelty, Durst, Clodfelter, Kauffman, Meyers and Deardorff families. There are many more Pennsylvania Dutch families than these however in the database. The url for this site is: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~padutch/familyhart/ Thanks! Don & Jeanine Hartman
Hello: I recently found one of my ancestors in 1795/1800 Hardy county. Of course the name was misspelled. Also I have seen a possible corruption of the name "Efau/Efaw/Efall" as Easau in the 1787 Hardy county census. Anyone have any tax/tithable/census/etc records later than 1787. Would like to connect the two names if possible. 1795 Hardy County deed David Efau(w) 1795 thru 1800 Land Tax for David Efall 1787 Hardy county census David Easau any help much/very much appreciated bob e

Hi everyone- Those of you who subscribe to the RootsWeb Review already know by now about the wonderful new resources and "toys" the folks at RootsWeb have given to us surname researchers. All resources for a surname that you can find at RootsWeb (and some housed elsewhere) are now accessible from ONE central "cluster" or "surname resource" website which you can access from the index located at: http://resources.rootsweb.com/~clusters/surnames/index.html Take a look at this site and play with the new toys and see what you think. There are a few bugs--they are still working on the RootsLink search engine I think and the guest book has a few bugs still being worked out--but on the whole it is a very nice addition to our resources. Enjoy! Joan
I, too, am interested in this settlement...I believe my "LUCAS" family who intermarried with the Karmickel / Carmichael's or various spellings....may have come from this area. Any help appreciated!!! I live near conservative Amish in MO. Would they speak the same dialect as other Amish/Mennonite and/or is PA Dutch a different language? Julie
Just wanted to let you know I have placed a page for Memorial Day 1999 and the page does contain some links to some genealogical and military information as well as links to my family in the some of the wars. The page may take some time to load but I think you may find it worthwhile. Nikki Memorial Day 1999 http://home.ptd.net/~nikki/memorial.htm Home Page http://home.ptd.net/~nikki Civil War http://home.ptd.net/~nikki/civilwar.htm American Revolution http://home.ptd.net/~nikki/american.htm
Julie asked: >I live near conservative Amish in MO. Would they speak the same dialect >as other Amish/Mennonite and/or is PA Dutch a different language? The Amish and many Mennonites as well as other "church" dutch all speak a German dialect known as PA Dutch. However, there are regional differences in the language from place to place. Here in Pennsylvania for instance there are some differences in the dialect from one county to another. Likewise some differences in the language here in Lancaster county between the Amish on one hand, the Mennonites on the other, and other dialect speakers on yet another. I use the phrase "Church" dutch to refer to those PA Dutch who do not wear distinctively plain dress but attend other church denominations e.g. Lutheran, Reformed, the more liberal members of the Church of the Brethren etc. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. In a message dated 5/24/99 1:36:57 AM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: > I would be very interested to hear how to get to the > PA-DUTCH archives. I don't think I've found them yet. Hi Jocelyn- I know you asked your question on the PADUTCH-LIFE list but I think the answer to the question may benefit many new subscribers (and oldtimers also) to all of our PA DUTCH lists, so I am posting my reply to all three RootsWeb PA Dutch mailing lists. To access the archives for the PADutch mailing lists all you need to do is visit this website: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl On this page type in the name of the list you wish to search the archives for: PADUTCH-LIFE, PENNA-DUTCH, or PADUTCHgenONLY, and then select the year you wish to search and the subject you wish to search for. Then you will get a list of the messages that match this criteria and you can read any of them you want. Also, since about February of this year RootsWeb has made available a new HTML threaded archives and all three of the PADutch mailing lists are registered with this new archives. Messages posted to these lists beginning at about that time are archived here as well as in the older archive. The URLs to access each of the PADutch list's archives are as follows: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/PADUTCH-LIFE-L/ http://archiver.rootsweb.com/PADUTCHGENONLY-L/ and http://archiver.rootsweb.com/PENNA-DUTCH-L/ Note: these URLs are case sensitive. The first time you visit the new archives you will need to establish a user ID (your name) and select a password (any password of your choosing). From that time on you can visit the archives of any list using this same ID and password. Eventually this new archive will replace the older one mentioned above and the back message from each list will be back-filled into the new archives. Many improvements are in the works at RootsWeb and this is but one of them. There are some exciting days ahead. Enjoy! Joan
I am seeking genealogical and historical information on a Ms. Annette Savage (Delafolie?) of Jefferson County, i.e., Bordentown, New Jersey and possibly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ms Savage was known to be a Quaker and a lover of Napoleon Bonaparte's older brother; Joseph Bonaparte ca. 1817-1830.
