    1. [PADutch] Re: [PD-LIFE] A NEW ONE FOR US?
    2. I still make the dressing for cucumbers & cole slaw from scratch. Mom didn't have a recipe and neither did Grandma so I just started by watching how they did it. All I know is you put a few T. of white salad dressing (not mayo) in a small bowl; add a couple T. sugar and maybe 3 T. vinegar; stir together till smooth then add a little milk to thicken and make smooth. These quantities are by no means accurate -- just a guess. You just have to go by what you "feel". Carol in Ohio

    2. Hi Gene, My father was born in Urichsville and lived there till he was 4 then moved north to Akron then to Barberton and was reared there. I have Gooding relatives in the area; Gnaden & New Philly. My grandmother was a Gooding. An early census in 1830 shows them spelling the name Gooden. My father would certainly have loved to talk to you, too. He loved to talk about his childhood and he loved the area. In fact, he loved to talk, period! We have an annual Gooding Reunion at Heck's Grove Park in Gnaden. Pop couldn't wait each year till it was time for it. In the last few years I have discovered my 5th gr grandfather, John Knisely, was the founder of New Philly. I don't know why my realatives never told me about him before. I have a little history but not much about him. I need to go to the Dennison Library and do more research. Carol

    2. Hi Carol, You're right. There is no connection in our Otto lines.. I knew there wasn't any because my great aunt was the last of the direct line and she died some years ago.. I only used Otto because of Elizabeth Dasher marrying an Otto and then an Orth. What I found of especial interest in your message was the fact that your father was born in Urichsville, Ohio, I was born and klived in Dennison, Ohio which is a twin city. Only a small, dirty creek separates the two little towns. They become almost ghost towns when the Penna Railroad took their shops out of Dennison. I would have enjoyed taking with your father. It's possible we lived there at the same time. Gene Straley

    2. Yes, I've eaten "coffee soup"! When I was 5 or so I stayed at Aunt Mary's & Uncle Walter's down on the farm for a week and that's what we had every morning. It was broken bread in coffee with milk & sugar. Carol in Ohio

    2. Hi Gene, As far as I can tell, these Otto's are not my line. My gr gr grandfather, George Otto, was living in Haluesburg, PA (now Holmesburg) in Germantown where my gr grandfather, Franklin Otto, was b. in 1847, his son, Warren Heston Otto, was b. 1888 in Urichsville, OH, his son, W. Howard Otto (my father) was b. 1912 in Urichsville, OH (just passed 1/13/01). I have no dates on George at all but he was m. to Margaret Creighton. Franklin had 5 brothers but only two others are known by name only being Peter & William who were mentioned in Franklin's obit notice. If you can make a connection, please let me know! Thanks, Carol Otto Perrine

    3. ANCESTRY QUICK TIP from Ancestry.com =================================================================== I often end up with a roll of film from a trip or holiday that has just a few frames left. I finish the roll by taking pictures of heirlooms around the house. After the roll has been developed, I file these photos in a special album and add information about how I got the heirloom, which relative owned it, etc. I place small items on a table in well-spaced rows before photographing them. Then I identify them by listing them as "Row A, left to right, Row B . . ." Caroline Kilgo ____________________________________________________________________ "Growing old is Mandatory. 2. What a wonderful idea. Thank you. Our film is always used up by taking pictures of the family pets. There are more pictures of them, than of the children!! I will certainly use this new method. How many things I have that the history was told to me as a child, and I wish now I would have listened better. This will document for my children those family things I have been entrusted with passing on. Thank you so much for this tip. Yvonne
