Hi David There was a Walter Penfold aged 6 years, born Croyden, in the 1881 Census. He was living at 13 Cross Road, Croyden, with his mother Jane aged 37 (born Godstone, Surrey) and his brother Henry aged 6, born Croydon too. There is no mention of Jane's husband and she is down as the head of the family. There also seems to be more than one Henry Penfold, born Croydon, of a similar age in the 1901 Census.
