Hi Colin Yes, I have a note of William Penfold marrying Mary Charman in Ifield 8.10.1881; her father was named as John Charman and one of the witnesses was Jane Charman. Both were of full age and both apparently came from Ifield; there is a suitable baptism for William: 4.1.1851, Ifield who, incidentally was on the 1851 Census Ifield with his family but not in Ifield after that. Hi Colin I believe I have seen the marriage of William and Mary you are speaking of. was it in Ifield in 1881? I have not yet discovered who William was as I had no age for him. If he was William Cass Penfold then he was born in Guildford and in 1861 was living with his grandparents Edward and Elizabeth Penfold at Ifield. Mary Charman is probably the daughter of John Charman and Jane (nee Penfold). Jane was daughter of Edward and Elizabeth above so that would make William & Mary cousins. The witness Jane could be her mother or a sister. You would need to investigate further to verify any of this.
