He was 38 years old when he was sentanced to transportation to Australia in 1838 and 43 when he married in Jan 1844. I have however found another Thomas Penfold, christened in Shoreham Kent on 26/11/1797, to John Penfold and Tryphena Penelope. In searching IGI there appears to be 7 children as follows. Mary ch 13/11/1791- Shoreham -married Edward Ring 27/8/1815, St Giles Cripplegate London. James ch 10/1793 - Shoreham. - married?? 14/01/1819 St Giles Cripplegate London William ch 7/2/1796 - Shoreham. Thomas ch 26/11/1797 - Shoreham. Henry ch 26/10/1800 - Shoreham. Edward ch 27/03/1803 - Shoreham. Tryphena Penelope ch 20/04/1806 - Shoreham - married John Terry 09/12/1827,St Giles Cripplegate London. The UK Census 1851 shows Mary Ann Penfold b 1833 living with her father Thomas Penfold at 99 Church St Croydon. This could possibly be the Mary Ann you are looking for, however I have not researched further with this family as I don't think they are the ones I am interested in.
