Hello Brenda I have found several generations of my Penfold line in Hawkhurst going back to John Penfold & Mary Gooding who married there 10 Dec 1804. John however does not appear to have been born there so I am trying to trace where he came from. Unfortunately he died before the 1841 census was taken so I can't check that to see which county he was born in. I am afraid I don't have either your grandfather or his parents in my file at the present, but when I do manage to trace where my John Penfold came from it is possible that we could be from the same line. I was hoping that other members might recognise some of the Johns baptised around 1768 but I think I must have been unlucky in this. Good luck with your research.
