Hi List I am posting some information I have in a file I received from Lorraine & Glenda Farley (with permission) It's from a family file called "The Penfold Family of Cooplacurripa" compiled by Robert J Young. A lot of this most people will have but if it just helps one researcher it's worth it. I have found by sharing you generally receive information back,and so everyone gains. I must also say that I personally have not checked this information so can't verify it . The first PENFOLD to arrive in Australia was probably HENRY. Henry died in Sydney on May 13th,1813 and was ? buried at St Phillips by Rev William Cowper.At the time of his death ,Henry was aged 26 years and was a free settler.(Mutch Index Film 0952036) A second HENRY PENFOLD sailed from SOUTHAMPTON on 18 August 1820 on the ship ELIZABETH (3rd trip). The ship was 482 tons and the master was William Ostler.The ship arrived in Sydney on 30 Dec 1820.Henry had been convicted at Southampton on 20 Feb 1820 . His native place is described as Exeter and Winchester.He was a farm manager aged 35 years.He was 5ft 4"tall,had a dark complexion.with black hair and dark eyes.(Convict Fiche 645 Page 284) This MAY be the Henry PENFOLD (Convict No 217)who arrived in Van Diemans land by the ship RICHMOND and who was married in Hobart on 19 Oct 1829 to SARAH ROBINSON Convict No 1293).Sarah became free by serving out her sentence on 5 April 1834. Sarah came fromrlebone,London and was convicted for stealing a pair of sheets ("Notorious Strumpets and Dangerous Girls" by Tardif,Angus & Robinson. The next to arrive in Sydney was probably WILLIAM PENFOLD. He left England on the ship ADAMANT (427 tons,Master William Ebsworthy) on 29 March 1821 and arrived on 17 Oct 1821.He had been convicted at the Worchester Quarterly Sessions on 17 Oct 1820 and was sentenced to 7 years.His native place was Dudley or Derby.He was a labourer ,aged 35 years and was 5ft 5 1/2 " tall,of florid complexion,with andy hair and grey eyes.
