Thanks Arlene - progress (backwards) at last! Charles (my Grandfather) gives his age as 43 in the 1901 census but I don't count on the accuracy of that. His wife Alice had the same age. She was from Burgess Hill, and their first 3 children were born there, then they moved to Hove, near Brighton, where the rest were born. I have a cousin aged 93 who still remembers them! Yes please, I would like more information of his ancestry, the large families of those days means the family is spread across the globe - one of my uncles emigrated to Canada in the '20s, and it is quite likely that members of earlier generations left these shores also.
