Hello Trevor and all members of the Penfold list. My name is Bob Roberts and I live in Grants Pass, Oregon-USA My research interest are: (1) Penfold and Tribe ancestors in West Sussex, namely around the Lurgashall area. My 2x great-grandparents were Jesse Penfold and Jane Tribe Penfold. They were involved with the Petworth Emigration Scheme and sailed on the Lord Wellington for Canada in 1832. My great-grandmother, Esther Penfold, was born aboard the ship the day it reached Quebec, Canada. (2) Roberts in Wales, My great grandfather Owen Roberts was born in Aber, Caernarfonshire, Wales. Owen emigrated to Canada in 1843 where he met and married Esther Penfold. They had 13 children born to them and the family migrated to Kansas, USA in 1870. One other child was born in Kansas. Some on the list may know about the two books that have been published about the Petworth Emigrants. Here are the titles: "Assisting Emigration to Upper Canada-The Petworth Project 1832-1837", by Wendy Cameron and Mary McDougall Maude. And: "English Immigrant Voices-Labourers' Letters from Upper Canada in the 1830's", edited by Wendy Cameron, Sheila Haines and Mary McDougall Maude. I have the two volumes plus one written by author John Connon entitled "Elora", it is the early history of Elora and vicinity. This is the area where many of the immigrants settled and many of their lives are described within the book. If any one on the Penfold list has surname interests in the Petworth Scheme I will be happy to share what is in the books. May everyone enjoy a happy and prosperous New Year. Bob Roberts Oregon, USA
