I have been looking at the following site: http://www.lightage.demon.co.uk/ Which lists crimes as taken from newspapers - I believe over 100,00 together with another list of Policemen who reached the newspapers for various things - such as citations, etc. Obviously there are Penfolds on both lists. This was for Charles 40, wife Hannah and children plus stepniec Amelia Sutton - all born in Cray, kent. They were living in Cray, Chiselhurst, Kent. It turned out that we were related in some way. That was about 25 years ago and I had forgotten all about it. I have now traced my family back and have found a Great aunt called Elizabeth Dennard who married a Frederick William John Penfold on 14 October 1939 at the Registry office Bromley Kent UK. I've just joined this list so I thought I'd introduce myself and my interests :) I'm interested in the PENFOLD family from the Petworth area of Sussex, England. They aren't in my direct line, but George PENFOLD b.1895 Petworth married my grandmother's sister Edith Alice BUDD. William PENFOLD chr. 1798 in Buxted, Sussex was George's GG Uncle, and was the Superintendent aboard the Lord Melville which sailed to Upper Canada as part of the Petworth Emigration Project. I believe his family remained in Canada or the US as his son Standing George PENFOLD married in Lockport City, Niagara in 1846. As far as I know, the rest of the PENFOLD family remained in Petworth. The given name of Standing has appeared at least once in each generation since 1778 until the present day.
