Hi All, I'd like to thank everyone who gave me information on Elizabeth BENNETT,who married Jesse PENFOLD Louise
Hello - I have a PENFOLD family Thomas PENFOLD married Amelia Taylor (d.1926) children: William, James, George, Mary - any further data would be appreciated. Kate
Hi All Jesse Charles PENFOLD m Elizabeth BENNETT 1849 in Morpeth. I have found an Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph & Anne BENNETT Can anyone verify that this is the correct parents please? Thanks Louise
This is Ed McCarthy. I left this L list a while back for the digest mode, and now I am back. As some of you know, my Penfolds were from the Pulborough/West Chiltington area. Thanks to Stan Clark and Brian Bloomfield, I have just added a generation back to the early 1800s, and some children of the second Barton Penfold and his wife, my Chatfield relative, who lived in the 1835-1900 period. I'd be glad for any other contacts.
Hi Sid. I'm sorry for not having responded to your email. Your date was set at 1998 and therefore the email put itself way down in my list, below where I could see it. I found it by accident. Yes, George Saxby was one of their sons. He went to Canada, I understand. He is referred to in letters I have but I don't know what became of him. I haven't found another "Saxby" in the family and don't know where it could have come from. Best wishes, John. Sid Geoghegan wrote: > Hello John, > Thank you for correcting my wrong assumption. Hi all I was looking for something related to my BICKER family and came across the following website: http://www.lightage.demon.co.uk The site claims to list the names of over 150,000 policemen and criminals mentioned in the newspapers between 1850 and 1920. I had a quick look on the "Black Sheep" Index and there are several PENFOLDS listed. The surname lists are in pdf format and I believe that you can request further ifo from someone on the site regards Michelle (pearson) _________________________________________________________________ Overloaded with spam? The information given made take a fresh look at data I have: Charles PENFOLD b. 1836 Arundel f. Peter 1803-1877 Peter probably the son of Mary (1773-1858) and Hugh PENFOLD (1759-1845) This may well be the PENFOLD of Arundel family - engineers - the Arundel Town Hall had three pairs of gates with the name "Charles Penfold ARUNDEL" cast on the locks - for a time a tenon saw could also be found at Arundel Museum with the earlier name of the company "Penfold & Wimble"I don't know if that is the case now. Company name later changed to James Penfold "Iron Brass Founder & Agricultural Implement Maker of High Street, Arundel". Later still to James Penfold Ltd. Sources: Pikes Directory 1886; Mitchell's Monthly Advertiser (West Sussex Gazette); Tortington Ironworks lst surveyors drawing 1805 Ordnance Survey map. I believe it only fair to state that any information I forward should be only be taken as a possibility, unless I quote a source where it can be substantiated. Kate
Thanks Julie for the 1881 strays. FIRST: In case it is of use to anyone I think there is a link to someone in the Brighton 1851 Census. The person you show: Spring Vale Works, Hammersmith William Penfold 34 b. Clayton Carpenter - with wife Eleanor 29 + children Emma 10 b. Brighton, William 9, Harry 6, John 4 all b. Battersea and Ann 1 b. Hammersmith could possibly be the same as:- 1851: William PENFOLD age 5 son of Henry age 32 milkman born Worthing Sussex 39 Wood Street Brighton. Is anyone looking at this family? AND SECOND to Ron PENFOLD: Ref the Thomas: 12 Upper Rathbone Place, St Marylebone Thomas Penfold 63 b. Sussex Bootmaker Journeyman - with wife Eliza 55 b. Rouen, France (BS) + children Pauline 13, Lizzie 10, Thomas 7, Mary 5, Kate 2, James 11m all b. Middlesex. You have probably spotted him already, but if not, then my reasoning is:- Since this Thomas is from Sussex and is about the same age as the Thomas you are looking for, I feel that details of this one need to be kept, to help a later process of elimination, if you get a short list of possible Thomas's. AND THIRD: Question to Julie - Does your source show any clue to birthplace other than Sussex, for the above Thomas, please? Regards Ken
