    3. Att Kate Burns Hello Kate, I have had a look at information I have in my tree and have come up with the following info that may refer to some of the names you have mentioned. If my information is incorrect I hope someone will correct me.... You mentioned PETER b. 1803 - 1877 I have a PETER b. 1803, christened 17Apr1803 in St Andres Church Steyning. His parents were Hugh Penfold b. 1766 in Broadwater by Worthing and Mary MArchant LASHMAR..... married 17 Jun1794 in Steyning. Arundal is not all that far from Broadwater and Steyning (about 2 inches on my map) so could possibly be the same family. I don't have any further details on PETER b.1803 so don't know if there were a wife or children Hope I haven't confused you Cheers Heather Domoney ----- Original Message ----- From: "kburns" <kburns2@bigpond.com> To: <PENFOLD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 19, 2003 7:54 AM Subject: [Penfold] Re: PENFOLD-D Digest V03 #17 > The information given made take a fresh look at data I have: > > Charles PENFOLD b. 1836 Arundel f. 3. Hi all, Just to let you know that I am undertaking an exercise to contact all members of the GenesConnected website who have a Penfold in their family tree and notifying them of this list. Hopefully we might get some more stories of cousins being found! As the contacts are only initially shown by their Christian name it is difficult to know whether these folk are already on this list. So if you do get an email from me via the GenesConnected website please disregard it. For those of you who are interested in this new website the URL is www.genesconnected.co.uk and it is a sister site of the very popular FriendsReunited site. Best regards, Trevor

    3. Ron, No I don't know where the name Standing came from - the earliest record I have is for Standing PENNIFOLD b.1778 in Worth, Sussex, son of Thomas PENNYFOLD and Elizabeth HALL. I imagine it's the surname of a female relative, possibly through his mother's family, but I haven't yet made a connection. Luckily the name has been used at least once in every generation since then, so it makes researching a little easier! Incidentally, the name is still in use today as my mother has a living cousin called William Standing PENFOLD. Just out of interest, was there anything worthwhile in that record of S.G. PENFOLD, or was it just his name in an index? Linda North Somerset, England linda@lindanet.co.uk Family tree at: http://www.lindanet.co.uk > Linda, > Thanks for the reply. 3. Ron, I can't help with your Thomas George PENFOLD I'm afraid, although I can place one of the PENFOLDs you have listed for the Buffalo/Niagara area. This one - S.G. Penfold about 1820 - will be my Standing George PENFOLD, chr 18 May 1820 in Petworth, Sussex, England who married Mary A. Carson 1846 in Lockport City. None of the other names look familiar to me, but at least you can rule one of them out and narrow your search down a little. 3. Dear Members, My name is Ron Penfold and I live in Minot North Dakota. I am a descendant of Thomas George Penfold. He was my GGGramdfather and was born on Dec 22, 1817 in London or Sussex, and died May 27, 1888 in Massilon Iowa. He lived in Buffalo NY for several years and married my GGGrandmother Elizabeth Parry in 1844. I am stuck at trying to go back beyond Thomas. I was given a tip by Ken, one of the list members, to approach the problem at a different angle and maybe someone might be able to connect with this approach. There is an 1844 Buffalo City Directory of a Thomas and William, both Sailors living at 48 Indiana Street. There is also a record of William Penfold and Maria Chapman being married on Sep 22 1847. The 1850 census has William and Maria living in Buffalo NY. His occupation was listed as a Ships Carpenter. They had two small children named Frank and John. There were other Penfold's living in the Buffalo/Niagra area in the 1850's and they might be related. Philip Penfold, born about 1821 S.G. Penfold about 1820 William Penfold about 1826 Peter Unkown Does anyone have any information that might shed a light on these New York Penfolds? I am particularly interested in William and Maria. I think they might be the key in me going back further. Any help will be greatly appreciated. 2. Dear Beverly Thank you so much for getting in touch,I was reading the posted messages on ancestry .com (to which I have wrote in the past)and accidently read yours in answer to Ken Newcombe,May 2002.I saw the names Thomas & Sophia Orchard who I believe the same to be my g/grandparents,buried at St Enoder Cornwall,I have visited the grave. My grandfather John,my husband Nelson's, grandfather Edwin ,two brothers sons of Thomas & Sophia,as far as I know of 12 children. They were my stumbling block as I couldnt go back any further and thought they originated from Cornwall where the grandfathers were born but now it appears not,so any or all of your info on any descendants of John & Harriet and them would be wonderfully appreciated.I am so excited as this is the first breakthrough for 3 years, also do you know where any of these are buried, dates, wherabouts any lived, how you came to find all your info and where did you look. Are you any relation of Tony from Hants,as he is researching a Penfold & Priscilla Thompson. Its funny as the same names are still going in our families today. Please I know this is a tall order and most time consuming, if you would prefer to copy and post direct to me,I will supply any postage and my address for you.(I cannot send this to you direct, difficulty with your email address,so have to go through message board) Thanking you so much once again, sincerely,Shirley
