    1. Rootsweb Mailing List Change
    2. Wm. Glenn Pearson
    3. Dear Listers, The software that handles Rootsweb mailing lists is being changed. The move appears to be greatly beneficial. Below, I have copied and pasted essential information from Rootsweb regarding this change. "Dear RootsWeb mailing list subscriber, We are excited to announce that in the coming weeks, the RootsWeb.com mailing lists will be moving to a new list management system. Why? The new list management system offers updated technology, better spam control, and more efficient hosting of the lists. When? All the lists won't be updated all at once. In fact, once we start it will take us about two weeks to complete the process. We've posted the additional details about the update and a current update schedule at the link below. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html This page can also be found by following the link found on http://lists.rootsweb.com. If there are any changes to the schedule, we'll update this page to let you know. How will it Affect You? Your current subscription(s) will automatically transfer to the new system so there will be no need to re-subscribe to your list(s), however, because the sending and receiving of list email will be handled by a new system, you may notice a few changes to your list(s). Digest subscribers will notice a small difference in the layout, volume and issue numbers of the list digests. The "-L" is being dropped from the "official" list name. This means the "from" address your mailing list emails come from will be slightly different- ListName@rootsweb.com vs. the current ListName-L@rootsweb.com. You may have to adjust your spam filters or put the new address on your "accept" list to prevent it from being caught in your "junk" folder. This sounds like a big change, but it doesn't have to change the way you use the list. Here's why: - You will still be able to send messages to the list using the "ListName-L@rootsweb.com" email address you use today. Additionally, you can choose to drop the "-L" and send your messages to ListName@rootsweb.com. Both addresses will work after the list has been migrated. - You will still be able to subscribe and unsubscribe to the mail or digest mode by sending your request to ListName-L-request@rootsweb.com or ListName-D-request@rootsweb.com as you do today. You will also be able to unsubscribe from the mail or digest mode by sending your "unsubscribe" message to LISTNAME-request@rootsweb.com. The tools that list administrators use to manage their list will also be changing. If you are a list admin, you will be contacted in an additional email on Monday with more details and a link to a tutorial. We're excited about the improvements to the lists because we feel confident that they will ensure that the mailing lists continue to run smoothly for years to come. We appreciate your patience while we make this transition and hope that the RootsWeb mailing lists will continue to be a valuable tool in your genealogy research. Thanks, The Rootsweb Staff" Wm. 3. Hi List, I am new to the list and I am seeking information on a JOHN R. PEARSON who married Sarah Geralds sister of Mary Geralds of Lincoln CO., TN. John & Sarah could have married between 1860-1865. I am trying to find out the dates of Sarah &John Pearson's birth, death, marriage and if they had children. Sarah's sister Mary Geralds married John W. McDougal, Lincoln CO., TN, 1864. Sarah & Mary Geralds parents were James S. Geralds & Druscilla Greer of TN. They had two other brothers, James Wesley & Benjamin Franklin who was B 1850, marr Mary Elizabeth Stiles 1881. Thanking you in advance for any help you can give to me. Thank you! Vicki

    1. Charles Fellows PEARSON, Hampstead links to Sir Richard/Kirkby Lonsdale
    2. Joan Fisher
    3. Hello list, I'm new here and am trying to make two connections. I have been researching the family of Sir Richard Pearson (born 8 Feb 1731, Langton Hall near Appleby, Westmorland, died Jan 1806, Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, England). I have his line back to Richard Pearson of Langton, Westmorland who died in 1690. The first connection I know exists but I haven't been able to make is to link that line with the line of Francis Pearson who left the family home of Close House, Long Marton, near Appleby in 1780 to move to Kirkby Lonsdale where he had bought a medical practice. He spawned a long line of doctors and lawyers who practised in Kirkby Lonsdale. Through somewhat tenuous evidence I believe this latter line connects directly to the family of Charles Fellows Pearson of Redington Lodge, Hampstead, London and Russell Square, London and his wife Eliza Ann. Charles was a wine merchant in 1881, age 37 and born in St. Pancras, Middlesex, England. I would be most grateful for information on any of these families. Thanks, Joan

    2. Rebecca, My husband's family descends from an Elizabeth Pearson who was found on the Coffee County, Georgia census of 1880 with her three young daughters. Do you know if this might be the same Elizabeth that is in your line? Would love to hear from you. Bev chozijoy@aol.com

    1. Pearsons -- Catherine Pearson Adams and Mahala Pearson Scruggs
    2. Two of my 4th great-grandmothers' maiden names were Pearson and both lines stop cold with them. Both were born in South Carolina. If their families' migration patterns follow most of my other lines - their ancestors probably settled in Virginia before making their way south through North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The first is Catherine (Katherine) Pearson. She married James Adams about 1814. James was born about 1785 in the Pendleton District of South Carolina. They had at least 10 children; the known names are Pearson (my line), Elizabeth, Jeptha, Malinda Jane, Charlotte, Charles, Ozilla and John Russell. Catherine was born around 1790 in South Carolina. James and Catherine both died in White County, Georgia where the family settled about 1832. Mahala Pearson married Meredith "Meardy" Scruggs. She gave her state of birth as South Carolina in several censuses, and the birth year was about 1800. Their known children were Martha, Rachel Rebecca, Jacob, William, Mahala, Ephraim, and Samantha. Meardy and Mahala Scruggs were founding members of Friendship Baptist Church in Forsyth County, Georgia. Meardy and three of their children died there in a typhoid epidemic in 1850. (I know Rachel, Ephraim and Samantha survived the epidemic -- I don't know who the fourth surviving child was.) She died sometime after 1880 in Pickens or Dawson county -- I don't know where she was buried. I would really like to connect with other Pearson researchers. I have some information on both of these women's descendants. I would be happy to share. Rebecca Bannister beccasroots@comcast.net

(what is now Wake County,N.C.) and then died in 1763 in the area of what is Marlboro County S.C. His two sons, Aaron and Captain Moses Jr., planted the remaining seeds of the name for those who for the most part remained in the lower Pee Dee. However, several of Aaron's offspring had the wandering fever and migrated out of state, one grandson who moved to Wilcox County, Alabama circa 1856 and a daughter who moved to Tennessee circa circa 1805. Moses, Sr had a brother named Samuel Pearson who was a distinguished Judge in early Wake County circa 1790-1800. Their orginal land and mills are in the area of NC State Campus. Both brothers migrated together, but it is unknown when. They were the offspring of Simon Pearson of Baltimore County Maryland and Sarah Thurston Shaw Pearson. Simon held considerable land in early Baltimore County and lived across the Potomic River from the FairFax Virginia/Stafford County Pearson Branch of the same name. The Maryland Relative was actually a generation older than the Virginian relative. Subsequent discovery of "burned courthouse records-pillaged...from the civil war" led to documentation to Simon of Virginia's parentage...and his age. We do believe however that the Virginian Family shared Maryland relatives back previous generations...in fact we know Thomas Pearson II, the grandfather of Simon of Virgina had at least one brother who lived in Maryland. The other Pearsons you see in upstate South Carolina originated out of PA, and were Quakers. Their family was quite large. There is another family of Pearsons who settled in North Carolina, in the Eastern Coastal Counties, Thomas Wheelwright Pearson (Colonial ).
