    1. Re: [PAYork] Cemeteries in York County
    2. In the early part of the last century the Federal Government paid individuals in each County to make a record of grave stones standing in each cemetery. These records for York County originally were placed at the Martin Memorial Library in downtown York but as the Library grew it needed more space so they gave all their records to the York County Historical Society half a block from the library. If you would like them to look up your grave they will, but they charge for it. Renee Waring **************Need a new ride? Check out the largest site for U.S. used car listings at AOL Autos. 3. Renee: You are referring to a WPA (works progress administration) project as one of several President Roosevelt's ideas to "solve" the depression in the mid/late 1930's. Produced some valuable records, but did little to provide meaningful employment. Basically it was an early welfare project. Some records produced were excellent, however many errors exist. Information should be used with caution! Thus quality varies from cemetery to cemetery.
