I have a quick request. I'm going to the MGC, for 3 days, June 26-28, and I want to use my time wisely. I have two goals. The primary goal, is to work on solving the mystery of Jacob Arney. I know his son, Christian Arney, Sr. was born in Yorktown, York County, Pennsylvania in 1750 (by Christian's own statement).  Now I want proof, if it still exists.  Finding proof of Christian Arney, Sr.'s birth or baptism would give me pertinent information about Christian's parents, more specifically their names. Then I need to find proof of Jacob Arney's existence in Pennsylvania prior to 1767 (land purchases or sales, tax rolls, census, etc.) I have went over the Pennsylvania Archives and believe I have found as much information as it may offer.  So, where else should I look (books, microfilm, microfiche, etc.)? It has long been believed that Jacob Arney was the son of a Frederick Ernigh, who arrived in the USA, September 11th, 1732, aboard the Pennsylvania Merchant Ship, Captain John Stedman.  However, conflicting information shows that this Jacob died in Pennsylvania leaving behind a widow, Barbara. If I can find proof of this Jacob, truly being the son of Frederick Ernigh (who died in 1771) and that Jacob died in Pennsylvania, this would put this possibility to rest, once and for all! Which would push me in the direction, I believe I'm going, of trying to find out who my Jacob Arney really was, who were his siblings, who were his parents, was he born in the USA or did he immigrate with his family, where was his family from, etc.? The secondary goal Jacob Arney (along with his family, including Christian Arney, Sr.) moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina in 1767. Jacob had a son, Peter, born in 1772. Jacob died in 1784. In 1787, Peter Arney was bound over, by the court (being labeled an "orphan") to a John Fullenwider (Fulenwider), at the age of 15, to learn the trade of a miller, until the age of 21. Around 1793, Peter Arney moved to Wythe County, Virginia, where he married a woman named Margaret, and began his family. I have been unable to find any record or proof of this marriage.  The only marriage of a Peter Arney in Wythe County Virginia (that I can find) was to a Catherine Fox in 1827. I have also been unable to find any record or proof of any of his children's births or baptisms in Wythe County, Virginia. Around 1799, Peter Arney was in Wilson County, Tennessee. Peter Arney died in what was Overton County, Tennessee in 1845. (Yes, I know TMI) So, I want to spend my time with these two goals in mind.
