Hi Pam and Karen, I hope I am not intruding, but I would like to ask Pam about another family in Pennsylvania in the early 1800's. My GGGgrandfather, Thomas Elliott, was born in York County in 1807. His father, Andrew Elliott, died about 1822-23 in PA. I don't know if the family was still in York County at the time, but I would like to take a chance that Andrew's will might be in the book you cite. Could you check for Elliotts (possibly mis-spelled Elliot) in the range from 1795 to 1823? I am in California, so PA research is a reach. Thanks a bunch. Best regards, Chuck Elliott
Charles, >From "Index to Probate Inventories of York County .... ." Note that the book does not specify whether or not the person had a will - just that their estate was probated in York County. The listings represents "probate files" that are housed at the York County Archives. It the individual had a will, a copy will probably be in the file. But there will be other, equally valuable documents - inventories, administration accounts, reports of distribution of assets to the heirs, etc. I often find more genealogical information in a probate file when the person died intestate. You can get copies of the files through the York County Archives. Elliot, Andrew, 1751 Eilliot, Andrew, 1782, Monaghan Twp "", Benjamin, 1803, Monaghan Twp "", John, 1776, Reading Twp (now Adams Co) "", John, 1778, Tyrone Twp (now Adams Co) "", Thomas, 1760, Reading Twp (now Adams Co) "husband of Margaret" no Eliots. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charles Elliott" <chukndee@ix.netcom.com> To: <payork@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 05, 2009 2:38 PM Subject: Re: [PAYork] York County Wills > Hi Pam and Karen, > > > > I hope I am not intruding, but I would like to ask Pam about another > family > in Pennsylvania in the early 1800's.
