Denues and his obit (1923) says he was a prominent member of York Star Circle No. 47 Brotherhood of America and of Lady Franklin Home. Does anyone know what these organizations were/did? It seems the Lady Franklin Home was another post of the Brotherhood of America. I have a 1935 directory in my home library and it does not list the York Star Circle lodge/post, but it does list the Lady Franklin Home no 15 Brotherhood of America, and says it met 1st & 3rd Thursdays at the Giver bldg 47 South George St. I can't find anything that tells me anything about this organization and I'd be very appreciative to anyone who could offer some help. One other interesting thing is that Charles was a member of the GAR post 37, but his obit doesn't mention that at all. This tells me that his membership in the Brotherhood of America was more important to him than was his membership in the veteran post, when usually a vet's GAR membership was prominently listed in obits of the time.
