    1. [PAYork] Smith family research
    2. Still searching for the descendants of John and Margaret Smith who lived in Huntington Township of York County in the 1700's.  John Smith died in 1785, Huntington Township, York County, PA  Margaret Smith, maiden name unknown possibly went to live with their daughter Elizabeth after the death of John.  Their known children, listed on the will of John Smith, were:  George, John, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Hugh.  Eleanor married Robert Crawford, and moved to Venango County about 1806. Hugh married Mary Hutton, they went to Virginia about 1780, then west to Mercer County, Kentucky before 1786. Also searching for the descendants of William and Elizabeth Smith who lived in Huntington Township of York County in the mid to late 1700's.  William died in 1777, Elizabeth made their oldest son, James, administrator of William's estate.  Elizabeth, maiden name unknown, possibly went to live with one of their children. Their known children: James, George, William and Eleanor.   William was known to be an " indian fighter", had married to unknown, and had at least one child, Mary. William may also have been in either Tennessee or Kentucky.  James married his possible cousin, Elizabeth, daughter of John, before 1786, and inherited some of the land of his father-in-law, John. Eleanor married David Beals , their movements unknown after their marriage, which was also before 1777.  One of the two men named George Smith married a Sarah Brandon, inherited some of his father-in-law's land {Thomas Brandon} and as far as I know, stayed in Huntington Township, York County.  The other George Smith was known to be a miller, and also may have stayed in the area.  One of the two died between 1800 - 1810, the other died between 1810 - 1820.  What happened to James Smith and his wife Elizabeth Smith is also unknown.  If anyone has any information on this family I would be happy to share. Thank You Judy Smith/Colorado

    3. Hi Judy in Colorado, I have both your John Smith and your William Smith listed with original lands in Huntington / Latimore Townships (John from 1743 and 1753 possibly two different men, and William from 1744 and 1786. The curious item about William is that he took out what was later determined as an interference warrant on the same property as George Brandon in Huntington Township; in my volume 2 for Adams County. For more on this and other original PA land records for York and Adams counties, see http://www.paland.us. My best, Dr. Neal O.
