I have been watching the postings here that have to do with the location of old cemeteries. I too am a local, grew up in the small town of Strinestown, Penna. At present I am working on getting any information on an old cemetery that at one time was located on the grounds where they recently tore down the Strinestown School. It has been brought to my attention that while doing the tear down, human remains had come to the surface. In doing research we have found that as far back as 1796 there is a deed that allows for a meeting place to be built and an area for a cemetery. At the time the town was called Mt Pleasant. Also recorded in a book called Newberry Township-1700-1900 there is an interview with a Dale Hayes, who witnesed the destruction of the old stones by the contractor who built the school. Some of the stone were said to have been hauled down to Hykes Mill and thrown in the Conewago Creek. I would be interested if anyone has a listing for this cemetery or name of this cemetery. There is to be a Civil War Soldier to be buried there also from a note at the Heritage Trust from a Clair Boekel of Strinestown. Very interesting information, but would like to see if anyone has any other facts about this.
