Debra, thanks so much for all the info. If this is the same George Cron, the 1860 census age would be off by 10 years and would match the age for the 1850 record you found. Not impossible, so I need to see if I can make sure that is him in the 1850 record. I'm really hopeful that I can find out his mother's maiden name, if Catherine/ Deborah? was his mother. She apparently had some real estate when she died, for which I haven't found a source. Maybe it was some she inherited from her first husband.
