We looked at the names and found a region in France where the names were common. We also know the families settled in the same area in Pennsylvania. Therefore assumed they came from the same general area. Then we checked church records from the LSD films. From the estate settlements in PA and birth records in France we were able to determine the wives amnd children names. We accumulated information on many passengers on the Princess Augusta over the years and have identified the following Of 120 Adult males on the Captains list we have possible data on all but 32 - 73.3%. Of the total 330 passengers we have identified 234 or 70.9% The newspaper advertisement of the number of passengers list 304 With 3 buried at sea therefore we may have identified 77% NICHOLS STRASBACH STRASSBAUGH AND VARIOUS SPELLING CAPTAIN LIST SPELLING Nicolas Trasbart 40, a wife and six children Know fact: The Strasbach family settled in York County part of Lancaster until 1749. They originally came from Saulsure, Salm now part of Lorraine France. Was married to Catherine Gerard, probably a sister of Nicholas Gerard below. Nicholas Strasbaugh, born Abt. 1696 in Saulxures, France; died October 25, 1753 in York, Pennsylvannia. He was the son of 4. Jean Strasbach. He married 3. Catherine gerard January 29, 1717/18 in Saulxures, France6. 29 Jan 1718: Nicolas (written over Jean crossed out) Strasbach and Catherine Gerard both inhabitants of Saulsure; witnesses: Jean Ferry, Pierre Benoit, Nicolas Melot Catherine gerard, born Abt. 1696 in Saulxures, France; died Abt. 1750 in York County, Pennaylvannia. He and other families from Saulxures moved into Lancaster county were they cleared lands, built houses and settled in by 1750 he was granted a Warrant for 100 acres in Paradise township part of the New county of York which was formed out of Lancaster in 1749.
