Horace Collection Penn State Library and copy York County Archives)Activity between 1777 and 1779 is unknown but a listing in Hoenstine Rental Library in Hollidays, PA shows a John Henry Orth fighting for the north (British) at one point during the Revolution. The battle of York took place in the immediate area of their farm and was the last battle -taking pleace the year following the Declaration of Independence. Farm - Manchester Township about 3 - 4 miles west of Zions View. 1786 tax list shows - 6 inhabitants, 155 acres (L280), 1 house, l barn, 3 cows, 4 horses, l sheep (L 17). Estate after death show value L 5010. Revolutionary War - Army Private in York County Militia Guarding British Prisioners. Buried Quickels Cemetery - Revolutionary Placque. Could the Johan that fought for the British be the one from Lehigh County? I have Johan and Anna Catharina being from Westfalen, Prussia. They were married 26 Nov 1765 in Siegen, Westfalen, Prussia, parents of 12 children. She is also buried at Quickel's under the last name of Ortt.
