Everton, Editor and Publisher, 1971 Item notes: v.25 1971 Original from the University of Wisconsin - Madison Digitized Jun 18, 2008 Does anyone have access to this book???? I was doing google Books today, and typed in the surname Silsen. This book comes up with a reference to page 319 for Jacob Silsen m 1828 York, Lena Leitner (Magdelena full name). I know they were married at Christ Lutheran Church downtown York in 1828 so I was wondering what other reference this book may show. The surname seems to disappear after this time, cannot even locate them in 1830 census. Thanks if you can help. Lindsey

The Genealogical Helper (GH) is a periodical put out by Everton Publishers. Before the internet, and at the timeframe you are referring to (1971), GH was primarily a listing of queries. Hard to imagine, but it was one of the few ways researchers could find each other! Each issue might contain one or two general "how-to-do-genealogy" articles, but listing queries was its main function. There were also many ads for books, research services, paper forms such as Family Group Sheets, etc. The entry you found indexed was probably a researcher looking for information about the Silsens. Your best bet on finding old copies of GH would be the Allen County Library or the LDS Library in Salt Lake. GH is still being issued, although in a revised format.
