Author: timlong8 Surnames: LONG, ELTZROTH Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.york/15067/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I'm looking for information about Adam LONG who purchased a piece of land in Berwick Twp, York county (now Adams Co) from Andrew Foreman on 6 Mar 1767 (who bought it from James Reed on 11 Sep 1765). I found the preceding dates from a deed transferring the same land to his son, Peter, in 1792. Unfortunately the York county archives don't appear to have the 1767 deed in their online deed book index. Is anyone aware if there are any other sources for deeds in that timeframe? Otherwise, is anyone familiar with Adam? He appears to have been married twice, his second wife being Susannah Eltzroth, widow of Valentine Eltzroth, marrying her in Nov 1778. I'm not aware of Adam's first wife's name. Adam died 19 Oct 1802 and is buried at Conewago Chapel cemetery in Adams Co. Any help is greatly appreciated! 3. I have the entire original colonial sequence you are seeking: my indexed survey A-463, p.64 in Volume 2: Berwick, Oxford, Hamilton, Tyrone, Huntington and Latimore townships, Original PA Land Record Series. There is also a cross-indexed 'connected survey map' (map #2) which shows the extent of each survey indexed, shape, roads, streams, etc. - and its location. A research friend also showed me a 'new' and very neat trick. Download Google Earth (the free version). Zoom to the desired location - and follow the streams and roads to approximate the property location (as noted on my connected survey maps), then follow fence lines / tree lines and presto - you can see (as of about four years ago when those satellite photos were taken) exactly where those properties are! Not much has changed in 250 years. There is a 'free' complete name index for each volume on the website. Book and map is available from the York Co Heritage Trust, the Adams Co Historical Society, or direct from me. see http://www.paland.us for more info. I'm working on completing all of Adams County by the end of the year. That means: Menallen, Franklin, Butler, Hamiltonban, Liberty, and Highland (outside the Manor of Maske), should be done by the end of 2009. Dr. Neal O.
