    1. [PAYork] Arney wives and husbands
    2. Stan Arney
    3. Hi, I have been researching the Arney surname for most of 30 years, and I have found a flaw in the way I have been doing it.  I have basically ignored the wives (and husbands).  Only looking for the Arney name.  It was brought to my attention some time ago,  that in order to find them when I look at their name in the Census, to also look at their neighbors (the other people listed on the same page, the page before and the page after).  After all, marriages were usually done with people who lived the nearest to you, neighbors.  By knowing the maiden names of the wives (who married Arneys) and the husbands names (of those who married Arney women) maybe I can pinpoint where to continue researching to solve the more deeper mysteries.  My particular branch of the Arney's, I have traced back to a Jacob Arney, who died in Lincoln County, North Carolina in 1784.  [Note: This is NOT the Jacob, son of Frederick Ernigh who arrived in the USA in 1732!]  This Jacob Arney was previously in the York County area of Pennsylvania until 1767, when he moved his family to North Carolina.  One of Jacob Arney's sons, Christian Arney, Sr. was born in York County, PA in 1750, and he later moved with his father to North Carolina.  Once in North Carolina, Jacob Arney had another son, Peter Arney born in 1772 in Tryon (now Lincoln) County, NC.  Unfortunately, tracing these people is quite difficult since the first "official" Federal Census was not taken until 1790.  Meaning this Jacob Arney would have died six years prior to it.  Also meaning that any of Jacob Arney's siblings or his parents would be quite difficult to trace.  I have tried checking the Federal Census, in all states, of 1790 and you do not find very much at all. So, I need your help. If anyone researching or has researched this branch of the Arney's could please send me what you have on any of these Arney's, their parents, siblings, wives and husbands, it would be deeply appreciated.  Finding my branch of the Arney's "holy grail" is what I seek, solving the mystery of Jacob Arney!  Maybe by researching the names of these peoples spouses, I can find a new piece of the puzzle, and besides these are pieces I need in either case. Thank you for your time, consideration, and cooperation, in this matter, I deeply appreciate it. Sincerely, Stanley Arney Wichita, KS   Researching my Arney heritage, looking for definitive tangible proof of each of their existence, so we KNOW the truth and can share it with others.
