The case below is a result of that will. 1798 JANE LEATHER and JAMES WILLIAMSON against FREDERICK LEATHER, jun. THIS was a feigned issue, to try the validity of the will of Frederick Leather deceased. The defendants' counsel apprehending that the plaintiffs affected delay, ordered a distringas ; and they now cited as their ground of doing so, 4 Term Rep. 767. The defendant may carry the record of an issue, directed by chancery, down to trial, on a suggestion, that the plaintiff intends to delay it. And of this opinion was the court. This feigned issue is not like common cases. It may more properly be resembled to replevin wherein both parties are actors. 1 Black. Rep. 375. 1 Espinasse 54. 1. [PAYork] Tax List Alterations
    2. Bruce Yake
    3. Hello Jane and Peggy, Thank you both for your comments. My own sense of the matter was that the taxpayers had left the Township after the assessment had been made. However, it did seem improbable that four persons with surnames so close alphabetically and in the same township would all decide to leave at almost the same time. I hoped that another researcher with previous experience in the matter would be able to definitely confirm or disprove my theory. It would seem that Jane's previous experience with the same matter in another county is the best information available and indicates that those taxpayers most likely did leave the area at that time. Thank you for your help, Bruce. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jane McCann Walsh" <jmwalsh@hughes.net> To: <payork@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 07, 2008 5:31 PM Subject: Re: [PAYork] Tax List Alterations > At 09:41 PM 3/7/2008, you wrote: > >On a hand written page (no page number shown, but surnames start > >with "W" or"Y") of the 1797 Tax list for Monaghan Township, York > >County, I find a line has been drawn through the person's name and > >tax amount for four entries. > > Bruce, > Experience with this in another PA county has matched other > information about when the family migrated out of the > county. 2. Bruce Yake
    3. On a hand written page (no page number shown, but surnames start with "W" or"Y") of the 1797 Tax list for Monaghan Township, York County, I find a line has been drawn through the person's name and tax amount for four entries. The other data in the columns for those entries ("Quantity", "Rate", "Valuation" and "Amount") do not have lines drawn through them. The other seven entries on that page have no lines drawn through any part of those entries. Does anyone know the sigificance of the lines struck through those specific names and tax amounts? Bruce.

    3. Some of my ancestors came from the Pigion Hills area. If you check the histories and documents from the Catholic Clapel at Conawago there are references in the mid 1700 of priests visiting homes in the Pigion Hills area. The area was part of Paradise township I believe now parts of jackson township. 2. Karl or Pat Seitz
    3. You have the right area for Pigeon Hills, which is a geographic feature, not a town. According to Fat Atlas http://fatatlas.com/node/1578965 Pigeon Hills is a range of hills located in York County. Use the Fat Atlas link I've included and scroll down to the map. Then zoom in to get the location. I'm afraid I don't know the history of the area. -- Karl Seitz >Could someone please tell me where Pigeon Hills is located? Yes, Rebecca was the wife of Jacob, b 1803. She was also known as Margaret. I photographed their graves in Lischy Cemetery, Spring Grove, several years ago. For years, I traveled to York every month to visit my dad, first in assisted living, then in a nursing home. I was last there in September for a Hershey cousin reunion, i.e. Barbara Holley, my sister Nancy, Joe Watson (son of Annie Hershey), and Herb Casner (son of Naomi Hershey). We plan another reunion in sept 08. Nancy now lives in Annapolis, Joe is in York but he is 80 and is in the process of moving into independent living. Barbara lives in Hanover but still volunteers at the York Historical Society. She has done some genealogy along with me on the Hersheys but not recently.
