It is one cemetery that has been shared by the two separate parishes that are in the city of York about one block apart from each other. Currently, the cemetery is not listed on the Diocese of Harrisburg website as one of its cemeteries that it maintains. I think each parish keeps its own burial records on its own parishoners who are buried there. If you are familiar with York, it is located on Starcross Road, which runs off of South George Street about 1/2 mile from York Hospital. The area is also known Violet Hill. Author: grizziesgirl Surnames: ZIMMERMAN, MARTIN, CLARK Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.york/14911/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Jacob K. ZIMMERMAN, age about 70, died 6 Oct 1912 at The Elms Hotel in Excelsior Springs, Mo. He left neither a wife nor a will but a million-dollar estate. "He was buried at his old home, Hanover, Pa." wrote the Philadelphia Enquirer (10 Nov 1912). Jacob had twenty-seven heirs and it made for quite a story with the KC Star publishing more than a dozen articles about the money and when and how it would be distributed. My favorite headline is: "This Family Tree A Forest" as hundreds sent their family trees in hopes of proving they were due part of the fortune. Jake Zimmerman was a cattleman and made his fortune perhaps largely in Waco, Texas. His parents were John ZIMMERMAN and Hannah (CLARK) MARTIN ZIMMERMAN who may also be buried in Hanover. Hannah was b. 1798 PA d. 27 Nov 1875; in 1823 Hannah was left a widow by Thomas D. MARTIN and she married John ZIMMERMAN and became the mother of Jacob K. ZIMMERMAN as well as three daughters (whose names I don't know). With generous help, I have collected KC Star articles, one article from Philadelphia mentioned above, and a death notice from Texas. I would like to know the story as heard by Hanoverians and other descendants. An obit from Hanover, a headstone photo, other newspaper articles from Pa. and any bits and pieces would be welcomed. At this writing I do not know in which cemetery he was buried. Further, I would like to learn where his parents were buried. Jacob's mother, Hannah, was my (MARTIN) gggg grandmother. My gg grandfather, John Hancock MARTIN, was one of the heirs who received a handsome portion of the estate. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
