    1. [PAYork] Maryland State Archives
    2. Hi Everyone. Tomorrow I am going down to Annapolis to the Maryland State Archives from York County, PA for a one day trip and will be returning on the same day. If there is anyone living in this area who would like to make the trip with me to do their own research I would be happy to take you along and split the costs. Gas has gotten so expensive it is smarter to travel as a group than it is alone. I have space for 5 people in my van. If you are interested in going along please email me or call 717-266-6985. I would email first, I spend a lot of time on line and it may be hard to get through on the land line. Sincerely, Renee L. Waring **************Need a new ride? 1. Re: [PAYork] Cemetaries

    3. > ------------------------------ > > Message: 3 One of the more powerful things they did was a "reverse filing" They filled out a card for each name in the cemetary and then filed them by name. This is a much larger effort than just burials. When you go to the Heritage Trust you can check out a box for the name you are researching. In it you may find church records (baptisms, marriages and burials) from the church records ( which are also in the library there) newspaper clippings (one may show a person with the target name who was a bridesmaid st the wedding of someone with a different name), obituaries, references to wills, work sheets from other researchers of that name (be careful), references to revolutionary and civil war records, and all sorts of goodies. For me, at least, just the boxes were worth the trip up from Virginia. Some boxes are almost empty and some names have more than one box.

    1. Re: [PAYork] Fairview Cemetery in York County
    2. I have just completed transcribing the Wrightsville, Fairview Cemetery. It was first done in 1932 as a WPA program. I used those records to compare with the new and found several errors as mentioned. Spellings seemed to have changed as well as middle initials and even dates of death. I located several older stones which had an original date of (for example) 31 Dec 1816 only to have the new stone marked as 1817. I even found duplicate markers in different sections. There are approximatly 4,500-5,000 transcriptions & photos in the new work in combination with the 1932 work.It consists of 16 CD's which will be made available for viewing at the York Co Heritage Trust. It has been mapped out which will make finding your ancestor easy. Melissa Hake Fitzkee In a message dated 4/23/2008 10:14:12 A.M.
