    3. Hi Ray. Thanks for responding. Am I correct to assume that you do not have a tree for these folk and, that the 2nd pp below is also the words of Rhonda? I have seen some of Ron Dotterer's work from the Salisbury, NC Lib as well as talked and Emails to him several times over the past 3 yrs. He is a Prof. at Salisbury Univ,Salisbury,MD and states he is writing a bk of 2 vols re DOTTERO. We have sighted what I suspect is our Balzer of Rowan Co, NC in: 1776 Christ (Ref) Church Communion, Littlestown, Adams Co, PA; Mem in this ch inc several DOTTERER, CLEMMERs &YOUNGs 1779 Evangelical Ref Congregation Ch in Fredericktown, Frederick Co, MD; 1781 Apples Luth & Ref Ch near Thurmont, Frederick Co, MD; 1781 Coroner's Inquisition in Craigerstown, Frederick Co, MD; 1782 purchase of Lot #35 in Creagerstown. 1783 Overseer of Road from Middletown E to top of Ketoctin Mtns; 12 Jan 1785 pur 240A on Bear Cr, W of Mocksville, Rowan Co, NC; 17 Aug 1785 Sells Lot #35 in Creagerstown, no wf found signing; 1 May 1787 Rowan Co, NC Tax List; 1790 census of Rowan Co, NC. Various sightings in Rowan Co, NC until his death in 1801. All of these sightings are for Balzer, Balthaser...but never preceded by Johan, George or anything. BUT, I have nothing semulating proof for any parents for him. I earlier carried 2 wives for him, 1) Maria Magdalena DERTER and 2) Eliz SCHLEGEL/SLAGEL but now I can't prove either!! And I still don't have a valid and complete fam sheet for Geo Balzer b 1735, s/o Rudolph 1709!! Help! Best, Hal McCawley 4178 Pindar Way, Oceanside, CA 92056 760.941.4716 <HalMac@Cox.net> ----- Original Message ----- From: Agnes B Yount To: halmac@cox.net Sent: Wednesday, May 07, 2008 4:58 PM Subject: Re: DOTTOROW in Fred Co, MD... Dear Hal, I have a document prepared by Rhonda Blair perhaps ten years ago, "Descendants of George Philip Dotterer and Johanne Michael Dotterer" Her E-mail address at the time was RMBLAIR@JUNO.COM Here is what she had concerning Rudolf: Rudolph Dotterer, born on Dec 29, 1709, in Stebbach, Baden, Germany. He married Margaretha ----- from Zaberfeld, Germany on May 29, 1709. The baptisms of two children are recorded at Colebrookdale, Montgomery County, PA. John Michael in 1732 and John George in 1734. Ron Dotterer from Salisbury, MD believes that Balthasar, Sr. (George Balthasar/Baltus) was also a son of Rudolph/Reuben, but as he said "no smoking gun". Based on the fact that he bought land in 1755, George Baltus would have had to have been born before about 1734. He died testate March 1, 1808. He devisd all hie property to his second wife, Elizabeth Slagle Dutrow during her widowhood. Following her death or remarriage, the property was to go to his childre, He left money sher, Dorcas Dutrow, Catherine Renn, Martha Rice, Sally Willing, and to Thomas Winfield (but not called "son". eal estate was to go to sons, Isaac and George Baltus, Jr. Isaac died before his step-mother without issue, so all the real property went to George Baltus, Jr. George Baltus Dutrow, Jr. died intestate in 1826. I have several correspondences from Ron Dotterer discussing the relationship of the NC Balthasar with George Balthasar, Sr. At one time, he thought the NC Balthasar was the son of George Balthasar. Later, he thought the two were uncle and nephew, but would not commit himself to which was which. It seems stange to me though, that George Balthasar would have nemed two sons, Balthasar. Although I have seen this done if they had different mothers. Since the NC Balthasar was born about 1735-45, it seems to me that it was more likely that he was a nephew of George Balthasar, Sr. No proof that they were closely related, but since both lived in Frederick County, it seems likely there was a close relationship. 1. Re: [PAYork] marketing of information
    2. Peggy K. Reeves
    3. Thanks, Kathy! I always appreciate hearing from someone who has contributed so much free information for the benefit of all of us. We get the "spin" from the subscription services on their press releases, but we also need to hear from people who don't have a financial interest in it. I can tell you from my personal experience at NARA that the press releases that were written about NARA's "partnerships" (as they call them) with the various subscription services were designed to sell subscriptions, but are often misleading, and don't give the real facts--just like TV commercials. You can't believe everything you see on a press release that was written by someone who is trying to market you (rootsweb is now owned by ancestry). Family Tree Maker used to be a free site on the internet, but now those trees that people posted voluntarily for others to see can't be freely accessed--they are owned, not shared. If we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it, as the saying goes. USgenweb made a wise decision, in light of past history. This discussion is certainly of interest to people on the York list and every other list, and shouldn't be stifled. Someone asked a legitimate question in the course of research on their York ancestors, and it was appropriately answered. Peggy Reeves > I am not misleading anyone. Since ancestry banners and > footers were forced upon us, there were no guarantees that > in the future ancestry wouldn't make the data that was > freely contributed, part of the paid subscription plan. > > All states moved, not just PA. > > Kathy

    1. Re: [PAYork] Slate Ridge Cemetery List -- ADMIN
    2. To all- This is NOT a matter for discussion on our PAYORK list. I would suggest that anyone who is interested get the FACTS by reading the information in the RootsWeb Newsroom at the link I previously provided. All states of the USGenWeb project did NOT move from RootsWeb -- each state and every county has always had the option of housing their pages anywhere they choose. For the record, our York County USGW page is still housed at RootsWeb as always and will remain there for the foreseeable future. The USGenWeb Archives project is a single entity and moved as a unit to another server--which, as I stated previously, is their right. We need only concern ourselves on this list with how to locate the Archives pages that have moved. What is NOT open to discussion on this list is the reason behind the move because it doesn't pertain to York County genealogical discussion. I suggest once again that people get the FACTS, if interested, and not participate in spreading rumors and inaccuracies. We all appreciate Kathy's efforts as Archives File Manger, and the efforts of everyone who contributes to the content housed in the USGW Archives. But internal issues related to the project are best handled within the project and not on our genealogy list. Thanks for everyone's cooperation in this matter.
