    2. My great-grandfather is James H. SMITH of York. He was born in 1858 and is the son of Samuel SMITH and Catherine DIETERICH. Samuel's parents are Barney/Barnet SMITH and wife Catherine. There were several generations of stonemasons in this York County SMITH family. They lived in Dover Township and later in York. James had an older brother named John J. SMITH. I have looked at this Smith genealogy many times but I have never been completely satisfied with the conclusion that Johann was the son of Johann George (Sr.) Schmitt. It all seems to fit......but....I just haven't been hit with that "found ya moment" yet...Dull's book seems to be the source of this information but he offers no supportive data for this conclusion. It appears that John George had a son John...but, was this the one?? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
